Small business owner hits back at ‘rude’ TikTok star Sopha Dopha after argument over $125 ceramic mug

Controversial influencer Sopha Dopha has come under fire over claims she was ‘rude’ to a small business owner.

Her ‘sippy cup drama’ started when the social media star shared a video of her Christmas purchases, including a handmade strawberry sippy cup bought from ceramicist Shelby Sherritt at Finders Keepers Market in Sydney.

The 20-year-old, whose real name is Sophia Begg, shared her shock at the price of the small double-handled ceramic cup, which came to $125, claiming she wanted to abandon the purchase but was unable to.

However, in a now-deleted video, Shelby hit back at Sopha, claiming the TikToker “lied” about what really happened.

“It is also very disturbing to see someone not only questioning you as a business owner and lying about the way I interacted with you, but also questioning my pricing when you also run a small business,” Shelby said .

“I explained to you then, as I explained to everyone who came to my store that weekend, that all the prices are at the bottom and you can pick them up, check them out and not have to buy anything. You can enjoy my store just because I understand. Times are tough right now.”

Shelby continued, “And then I showed you other pieces that I had left behind because they were so popular that I barely had any left. I showed you and even told you the price of it.

‘Then you gave me the one you were going to and I thought, ‘great choice.’

“I asked you, as I asked everyone else that weekend, if you wanted tissue paper or some more padding, because I wanted to make sure the piece was safe wherever they were traveling that day, and I didn’t wrap it until I had an answer and I then gave you the Eftpos machine to tap your card.”

Shelby also noted in her video that the piece Sopha purchased was part of the company’s “dignity mugs” category and had a double handle to help people with disabilities.

“I didn’t realize how much (the mug) was,” Sopha claimed in her first video. “I’m fucking looking at the Eftpos machine, $125!”

“Look how small this mug is, it’s literally small,” she added, saying she couldn’t cancel the purchase because it was already packed.

Sopha Dopha later made a second video to detail her version of events after fans criticized her, claiming she said Shelby’s “pieces weren’t worth the price.”

“In my personal opinion, I didn’t expect it to be that much for a small mug,” Sopha explains.

“I never said anything in the video that the price wasn’t worth it, that it didn’t deserve that price.

‘Why would I lie about this? Why would I make a TikTok saying I have no idea what the price is when I do know the price?’

Elsewhere, the blonde claimed she didn’t even realize the mug had two handles, before going on a rant about how she’s fed up with people using her name negatively to get attention.

‘This did not happen. “I don’t know why people feel like they can make videos of me saying my name and just throw lies in there to get views,” she continued.

“I didn’t even say anything bad. All I said was that I didn’t know it had two handles. And I was shocked because I didn’t expect it to be so expensive. God, shoot me the fuck. Like oh my god.”

“I don’t understand why things are blown so out of proportion and why people think they can just throw my name into things and why? Because it really gets tiring,” the influencer added.

The ongoing feud between the content creators has led to mixed reactions among fans, with many siding with each of them.

‘I don’t even follow Soph, but it’s so clear her intentions weren’t malicious. She just couldn’t believe she accidentally got a $125 mug,” said one TikTok user.

“Let’s all be honest: a mug is insane,” another added.

“How the hell didn’t you notice that it has two handles?” one person wondered, while another added: “It was a lie that I didn’t notice it had two handles, lol.”

DJ Maddy Spencer, who goes by the stage name Mad Day, posted a fiery video calling out a “major creator” for allegedly rejecting her at the event.

Sopha clapped back at the suggestion, saying Spencer’s version of events does not reflect what actually happened.

‘Sorry, but this irritates me so much. If you’re going to make a video like that, at least have the balls to say who it is. Because now every comment says it’s me,” she said.

Sopha added that she couldn’t have been the “rude” influencer because she wasn’t even present at the pre-party where the incident allegedly took place.

‘I didn’t know there was a pre-party or a DJ there. Do you like knowing that the comments are about a 19 year old when it wasn’t her, just to get opinions?’ she said.

Sopha’s fans quickly rallied in support of her on social media.

“That girl seems very rude in the video. Making a video about it to get attention,” wrote fellow influencer Kurt Coleman, while someone else added, “Everyone is so mean to her for no reason.”
