A shooting erupted Thursday in the parking lot of a Georgia high school during a clash between two gangs while students were in class.

Authorities say two people were shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries after the incident at McEachern High School, 22 miles northwest of Atlanta.

The victims, who have not yet been identified, are not enrolled students at McEachern High School, a spokesperson said.

“This afternoon, and just moments ago, we are able to verify that two individuals who are not current McEachern students were shot in a parking lot on our campus,” a statement from the school read.

“The campus has a code red, the police are on campus and for the safety of both students and staff, parents are not allowed on campus and buses will not run until the code red is lifted,” the spokesperson said.

All students are safe and have been discharged. Traffic in the area was reopened several hours after the shooting.

‘We are dealing with a serious and tragic incident. The good news is that both victims are alive, and it appears they will survive their wounds,” Cobb County Police Chief Stuart Van Hooser said at a news conference Thursday.

Hooser declined to share descriptions of the suspects, emphasizing that the investigation is still in its early stages.

‘We are currently still looking for suspects. We don’t know if we have multiple shooters. “All we know is that there were multiple people on the scene when the shooting occurred,” he said.

“I have every confidence that they will refine that lookout and that they will help narrow the list of suspects down to something that is manageable so that we can get everyone to safety and get these people into custody,” he added to it.
