The Last of Us trailer reveals the first footage on ‘Outbreak Day’

HBO has released the first trailer for their highly anticipated TV adaptation of the wildly popular video game The Last Of Us.

The video debuted on Monday – September 26 – which is known in the The Last Of Us video game world as Outbreak Day, when the cordyceps fungus first began to spread throughout the United States.

The video also offered quite a surprise to fans, revealing that Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets) is part of the series, with the actress herself tweeting the trailer along with “Surprise!”

The trailer opens with Joel (Pedro Pascal) walking through a town, as we see signs warning of cordyceps infections, while others paint over a red decal.

The trailer – set to Alone and Forsaken by Hank Williams – finds Joel in a building looking at a red painted text – ‘If you’re lost in the darkness’, while we see a chain on his ankle.

The trailer ends with some explosive new footage… including a glimpse of a grotesque mutated made from the virus.
