Liberal Party VP Teena McQueen is charged with driving her BMW convertible while suspended

Outspoken Liberal Party vice president Teena McQueen has been charged with a series of traffic violations while driving her BMW convertible in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

The Sky News contributor, who appeared on programs hosted by Peta Credlin, Andrew Bolt, Paul Murray and Cory Bernardi, was stopped by traffic police in Paddington around 11:15 am on Aug. 11.

Police allege that the 61-year-old was behind the wheel of her black BMW 430i while her driver’s license was revoked and made a wrong turn at traffic lights at the intersection of Oxford Street and Jersey Road.

The far-right conservative, whose address is listed as a $2.65 million city apartment near Circular Quay, is further accused of embezzling her license plate.

She was represented by a lawyer but did not appear in person when the allegations were mentioned in Downing Center local court last Friday. No pleas were made and McQueen did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

McQueen, one of the four federal vice presidents of the Liberal Party, has sparked controversy in recent years with some of her television appearances.

She has often spoken publicly about internal party affairs and has been accused of making comments that are harmful to women.

In March 2021, it was reported that McQueen had said ‘I would kill to be sexually harassed right now’ at a meeting of senior female New South Wales Liberal officials.

McQueen denied using those exact words, but apologized, saying she just uttered a “throwaway phrase” to fool herself.

“What I said was that at my age – and it was a joke – every woman is getting older and I’m no longer being sexually harassed, which is a fair comment considering I’m a grandmother,” she told news.com.au.

“I’ve apologized and said I’m sorry about the comment — I’m obviously not going to make any more lame jokes — even if it was a comment about myself, but I certainly won’t be going there again.”

A gag order imposed on most members of the national Liberal executive before the last federal election was widely seen as aimed at stopping her statements.

In response, McQueen told Nine Newspapers, “Do you think anyone could gag me?”

In 2019, McQueen appeared on ABC’s Q&A program in what was described as a “train wreck” performance.

During the show, political commentator Milo described Yiannopoulos, who was recently banned from Australia for hateful comments, as “an entertainer.”

“No one can take Milo seriously,” she said.

Instead, she accused former Greens leader Richard Di Natale of using “hate speech” and “inciting violence,” which then-host Tony Jones was “probably defamatory.”

In the same program, McQueen spoke fondly of former US President Donald Trump, whom she had met in 2006 during a Miss Universe pageant.

‘I had a great time’ [talking] with him about politics,” she said. “He wasn’t racist, not sexist, none of those things.”

Referring to Trump’s infamous ‘grab ’em by the p***y’ comment when he was secretly taped talking about using his fame to have sex with women, McQueen said: ‘I was joking before. about ac**k. I don’t think there’s much of a difference there.’

Fellow panelist, American writer Roxane Gay, commented: ‘Grabbing a joke versus a woman’ [and] talking about sexual assault are two very different things.’

Jacqui Lambie was scathing about McQueen’s contributions to the debate. “I thought the Libs were already a train wreck. Teena McQueen just sent them off the track,” she wrote on Twitter.

McQueen told Andrew Bolt in late 2018 that she was unimpressed by claims that women are being bullied within the Liberal Party.

“I’d say shut up or shut up,” she said. “Women always want the spoils of victory without the fight.”

McQueen was a staunch supporter of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott and a critic of his successor Malcolm Turnbull.

She has been a member of the Liberal Party for over 30 years and is against quotas for women in parliament.

In February, it was revealed that McQueen had taken on a new role in Hancock Prosecting from billionaire mining magnate Gina Rinehart.

At the time, Ms. Rinehart said she considered McQueen “very highly” and was “delighted” to have agreed to run Hancock’s executive team as group chief policy advisor.

“Teena is a proven senior executive and strong strategic thinker who brings to Hancock with decades of experience in business, public policy and advocacy and will lead our efforts in these areas,” said Ms. Rinehart.

McQueen said she was “excited” about the new job. “I share Ms Rinehart’s passion for Australia and consider her an excellent role model,” she said.
