A rapist who attacked a teenage girl was beaten by two men in a Dublin court during sentencing and had to be taken for medical treatment.

The 46-year-old man was about to be sentenced at the Criminal Court of Justice in the Irish capital when two men approached the dock and attacked him, Irish outlet RTE reports.

He was left bleeding and had to be taken for medical treatment while the two attackers were restrained and removed from the courtroom.

The prosecutor told the court about the abuse two girls suffered at the hands of the suspect when he was attacked.

The 46-year-old was convicted in December last year of several counts of sexual abuse, including sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, oral rape, anal rape, vaginal rape and sexual exploitation of a teenage girl between 2019 and 2020.

The 46-year-old man was about to be sentenced at the Criminal Court of Justice (pictured) in the Irish capital when two men approached the dock and attacked him, Irish outlet RTE reported.

The girl was first 15 and later 16 years old when the abuse took place.

The man was further convicted of one charge of allowing a child to watch pornography in 2019, when the victim was between 14 and 15 years old.

Judge Paul Burns said the ‘unacceptable’ attack constituted a ‘serious breach of security’ and would be investigated.

One of the girls was reportedly present in court at the time of the attack and was “clearly traumatized” by what had happened, according to RTE.

He added that further measures may need to be taken in the future to ensure the safety of everyone at the court.

“I know emotions can run high in Central Criminal Court cases, but this is no excuse for this type of behaviour,” Judge Burns said.

Sentencing was adjourned and will continue later this month on February 26, while the man remains in custody.
