- There were rumors that Senator John Fetterman and his wife Gisele Barreto Fetterman split after she deleted her social media
- Gisele reactivated her X account to clear up the speculation, claiming she was ‘just taking a break from social media’
- Comes amid controversy after Senator Fetterman voiced his fervent support for Israel
Reports emerged that Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.) and his wife Gisele split after she deleted all social media following progressive backlash against her husband for supporting Israel in its defense against Hamas terrorists.
But Gisele Barreto Fetterman returned to X, formerly Twitter, to dismiss the rumors and explain that she was just taking a break from social media.
“I posted a few months ago that I would be talking about taking a break from social media. I was bored with it…I’m a Pisces…it didn’t add anything to my life…but leaving social media is somehow more exhausting than having it?!” she wrote on X Wednesday morning.
She added: “You guys are absolutely awful, respectfully.”
This week, rumors swirled that Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.) and his wife Gisele Barreto Fetterman have divorced after she deleted her social media amid a feud over her husband’s support for Israel.
However, Gisele reactivated her X account on Wednesday to dispel the speculation. She claimed she was just “taking a break from social media” and called those reporting on her wedding “terrible.”
The speculation gained attention after a New York Times intern, Misha Schizarella, posted that Gisele had deleted all her photos with her husband on social media, saying, “According to reports, she is currently single.”
After Senator Fetterman’s wife pushed back against the reports,
“Community Notes is wrong as usual,” Schizarella pushed back, claiming that Gisele’s account was inactive at the time of her post and was only reactivated nine hours after the divorce news broke.
“All photos on her Instagram with John Fetterman are still deleted,” Schizarella added.
Schizarella also noted that her husband liked several photos of Israeli actress Gal Gadot on Tuesday night, before Gisele’s return to X.
A New York Times intern posted on X that the two reportedly divorced after Gisele deleted her social media accounts
Senator Fetterman’s support for Israel has placed him in opposition to many within the Democratic Party and among his supporters who do not share his views.
The Fetterman couple have been married since 2008 and have three children.
But reports of tension emerged after Senator Fetterman voiced his staunch support for Israel, also prompting widespread criticism from the progressive wings of the Democratic Party.
Protesters showed up at Fetterman’s home in Braddock, just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, shouting, “Fetterman, Fetterman, you can’t hide.” You support genocide.”
The first-term senator responded by trolling pro-Palestinian protesters with a large Israeli flag unfurled from his roof as they continued to chant below.
Some on social media say Gisele was also targeted because of her husband’s support for the Jewish state after it was attacked by Hamas terrorists operating from Gaza.
It’s been mentioned as a reason for their alleged separation, but as of Wednesday morning, nothing has been confirmed.
