American actress Kathryn Newton will make her golf debut this week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland’s St Andrews, where she is expected to be paired with a professional golfer.
Newton, 25, who was a golf prodigy in her youth, once revealed that she had made the difficult decision to put aside a career in sports in favor of acting success. Now she will compete on three different links courses, centered around the home of golf.
The Florida native is known for starring as Abigail Carlson in the drama series Big Little Lies and Allie Pressman in the Netflix teen drama series The Society. She also starred in Bad Teacher, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and is in line for a prominent role in the next Marvel movie: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Before the start of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on September 29, Newton said: ‘To be able to play St Andrews, the most historic course in the world, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, in a full-fledged professional event will be a great moment for me and I. really enjoy it.’

The 25-year-old started playing golf at a young age and started playing competitively at the age of eight before embracing success in her teens. She helped the Notre Dame High School girls’ golf team to three championships while playing at a plus-two handicap.
She also shot impressively in the 1970s, and her lowest 18-hole tournament score was 69 while in high school.
Newton was then about to play golf at a collegiate level, but chose not to represent the University of Southern California and chose to pursue an acting career.
In 2012, she was supposed to compete in the US Women’s Open in North Carolina, but she had to pull out of sectional qualifiers after landing the lead role in Paranormal Activity 4.

With a prize pool of $5 million, the Alfred Dunhill Links is home to two distinct tournaments: an individual competition for professionals that are part of the PGA Tour, and the Team Championship, in which Newton will compete alongside a professional player. Amateur participants are usually paired with a pro.
In order to increase the interest in the event, many of the amateurs are well-known personalities from the world of sports and entertainment. Boris Becker, Michael Douglas, Samuel L. Jackson and Hugh Grant have all competed in the tournament in the past.
And Newton won’t be missing from the A-list, as American rock legends Huey Lewis and Bon Jovi’s Tico Torres, Ronan Keating and former West Ham captain Mark Noble will also try it in Scotland.
