First responders were called first Hervey Bay Airport after the pilot attempted to make a distress call to air traffic control.

Air traffic control never heard from the man and shortly afterwards reports came in that he had crashed in a field near the intersections of Pialba-Burrum Heads and Anson Roads.

The man is in a stable condition and was seen with a large bandage over his left eye while speaking to emergency services.

He has since been taken to Hervey Bay Hospital.

More to come.
