Nvidia RTX 4090 Super and RTX Titan could be back on the menu – as RTX 5000 GPUs may shift to 2025
Nvidia’s RTX 5000 graphics cards – the consumer version of Blackwell – could be delayed until 2025 if a new rumor is true, but Team Green could have something to fill the gap.
That would be a supercharged version of the flagship RTX 4090, which could be something to beef up the fight against RDNA 4 this year – if a certain YouTube leaker is right (add a lot of salt at this point).
RedGamingTech (RGT) tells us that two sources have indicated that the next generation of Blackwell GPUs could be delayed, and that Nvidia will be testing an RTX 4090 Super variant again as a result. (This has been rumored before, albeit as an RTX 4090 Ti, but if Nvidia makes a faster version of the flagship it would definitely be a Super version of the formula).
We could also get an RTX Titan GPU, on top of that RTX 4090 Super, both of which would be built on the AD102 chip (as seen in the RTX 4090, of course).
Note that Nvidia is only considering this now – it may not end up happening, but it’s a possibility that’s currently being explored, and these graphics cards are theoretically back on the table as possibilities (where they were previously abandoned).
According to the rumored specs for the RTX 4090 Super, it will get a modest increase in CUDA cores (1,024 additional cores), which won’t make that much of a difference – but better memory bandwidth (with faster VRAM) and a theoretical increase for L2 cache will have that. more impact.
RGT believes we can expect this refresh to be around 10% faster on average than the RTX 4090, with performance varying from game to game depending on how much the video memory improvements matter for a given title.
The more powerful RTX Titan, we’re told, will throw in a few more CUDA cores (1,792 more cores than the RTX 4090) and double the VRAM to 48GB (the 4090 Super sticks with 24GB). In many use cases it probably won’t be that much faster than the RTX 4090 Super, with the real upgrade being that seriously beefed up video RAM, with the GPU intended for applications where that will be put to good use.
Analysis: A matter of AI priorities, anyway
A key consideration here is whether it’s really worth releasing an RTX 4090 Super and RTX Titan for Lovelace at this point, if the AD102 chip these are built on can be used by Nvidia in heavyweight high-performance computing and AI GPUs. You know, the products that sell for a lot of money – much, much more than the asking price of this theoretical Lovelace flagship innovation (and the Titan).
However, we could also look at this the other way around, and that is what RGT suggests. This means that Blackwell’s heavy-duty graphics cards will be prioritized – as even bigger money-spinners – so that the consumer Blackwell, RTX 5000, could be pushed back as a result (with Team Green’s next-gen production capabilities somewhat limited).
And given all this, Nvidia might need something in 2024 to hold its own against AMD in the consumer space, so that could be the RTX 4090 Super (plus Titan), if only as some sort of morale booster for Team Green fans, and a reaffirmation of his reputation. leadership. (Also keep in mind that Team Green could theoretically remain competitive against AMD’s next-gen lineup, which appears to be reaching the top in mid-range GPUs, simply by adjusting the prices of the new RTX Super refreshes ).
We are not terribly convinced by all this, but RGT’s sources indicate that this is the case. One source even says Blackwell might not launch until Q2 2025, and others aren’t sure it won’t even be later – which sounds doubtful, especially since other rumors floating around are pretty consistent about RTX availability 5000 on the market. late 2024, or early next year.
If you’re in the market for an RTX 5000 GPU, this may be disturbing news, but as always, don’t get carried away by any rumor.
If we start hearing about delays from other corners of the rumor mill, then perhaps it’s time to listen more closely to this possibility. Keep in mind that the current expectation elsewhere is that while Blackwell should land in late 2024, we’ll likely only get an initial RTX 5090 launch, with the rest of the next generation of GPUs following next year.
