‘She’s fine, everybody’s good, we’re doing well’: Jay Leno gives a thumbs up as he shares a positive update on his wife Mavis’ dementia battle – days after filing conservatorship over her estate

Jay Leno gave a brief update Monday from the driver’s seat of one of his vintage cars on his wife Mavis’ recently revealed battle with dementia.

After being spotted together on Sunday night, Leno was asked how his wife is doing, days after it became public that he had filed for a conservatorship due to her dementia diagnosis.

“She’s doing well, everyone’s doing well, we’re doing well,” said Leno, who appeared to be driving several friends around his neighborhood.

“I just made a will, just in case something happens,” Leno said, trying to clear up any confusion as to why exactly he filed for the conservatorship.

The 73-year-old wore jeans, a staple in his wardrobe, and gave a thumbs up to the cameras as he drove away.

“She’s doing well, everyone’s doing well, we’re doing well,” said Leno, who appeared to be driving several friends around his neighborhood.

The sighting followed a run-in on Sunday evening, in which Leno was seen with his wife Mavis at a comedy show in Hermosa Beach, California – the first sighting of the two since news broke that the former late night host had filed for conservatorship .

The couple was spotted arriving at The Comedy and Magic Club on Sunday, where Leno was scheduled to perform that evening.

Leno took his wife’s hand as they got out of their car and entered the club.

She kept warm in a pink cardigan, worn over a floral top and black trousers. Leno opted for a black suit paired with a blue button-down shirt.

The couple seemed to be doing well following the news of the conservatorship — Leno gave a friendly wave at one point during the outing while Mavis looked in good spirits as she returned to their car and chatted with a friend.

On Friday, Leno filed for conservatorship for his wife Mavis, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, according to documents.

The filing alleges that Mavis “lacks the necessary capacity to execute the estate plan” due to her “severe neurocognitive impairment (including dementia).”

He described having “a loving marriage of more than 43 years” with his wife, noting that he has “always handled the couple’s finances” and wanted to ensure she had “sufficient assets managed to be in her care foreseen if Jay Mavis were to die’.

It is unclear when Mavis, whom he married in 1980, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, but Leno began the conservatorship process in November.

Conservatorship is a legal status in which a court appoints a person to manage the personal and financial affairs of a minor or incapacitated person.

“The conservatorship will not be funded by any assets and is being established for the sole purpose of filing a petition for superseding judgment to ensure that Mavis’ estate plan is prepared and that Mavis’ future care is provided under the terms of a living trust,” the documents, seen by Fox news stands.

“Jay is fully capable of continuing his support of Mavis’ physical and financial needs as he has done throughout their marriage.

“Jay wants to execute an estate plan, including a revocable trust and will, that will provide for Mavis and Mavis’ brother and her only living heir besides Jay.”

The order also states that Mavis “consents to the administration of the estate,” as well as “Jay’s appointment as her conservator, and that she would not prefer to have anyone else appointed in Jay’s place.”

During a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jay said that people should “marry the person you want to be” and that he “married the perfect person.”

The comedian and former TV host was spotted driving around Los Angeles in December in his Tesla Cybertruck, the latest edition to his extensive car collection.

That outing took place 11 months after he broke his collarbone in a motorcycle accident – an incident that in turn occurred two months after he was burned in a motorcycle fire.

On November 12, 2022, Leno and his friend Dave Killackey were working on one of his vintage cars at his LA mansion when his 1907 White Steam Car burst into flames and exploded in his face.

Leno’s face then caught fire as Killackey said, “I couldn’t see his face, it was a wall of fire.”

After preventing Leno’s entire body from going up in flames, Killackey then extinguished the car fire.

In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Jay said he drove to the hospital after the shock incident and then decided to go home “to let his wife know.”
