Thiago Castilho, 18, was participating in an event in the town of Ribeirão Preto in São Paulo on Thursday night when he fell.
Multiple videos have surfaced online showing Perez climbing onto the bull for nearly eight seconds as the animal tried to fend it off.

Two men ran towards him as he lay unconscious on the ground, while another chased the bull.

After turning 18 in February, Thiago Castilho began participating in larger rodeo shows in cities in the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo.
Castilho was rushed to a local medical facility and went into cardiac arrest early Friday morning.
The incident is being investigated by the Ribeirão Preto Civil Police as a suspicious and accidental death.
Jean Carlos Castilho told Brazilian news channel G1 that his son was only 11 years old when he started riding a horse and rode an ox at the age of 16.
As soon as he turned 18 in February, Thiago Castilho began participating in larger rodeo shows held in various municipalities of São Paulo, including his hometown of Brodowski.

Despite warning his son about the dangers of bull riding, Thiago Castilho was willing to risk his life for the sport he loved.
“Unfortunately, that’s what rodeo is all about. It’s a dangerous sport. I always said to him, ‘My son, stop it,’ remembers Jean Carlos Castilho.
The grieving father said his son refused to stop and told him, “If one day I die, I’ll die happy, I’ll die riding.”
Local rodeo announcer Ronald Xavante honored Thiago Castilho Friday with a video calling him a rising star in the sport.
“Thiago was an 18-year-old who, since he was a child, has awakened the dream of becoming a rider,” said Xavante. “His dream came true, so Thiago had given great presentations and sparked interest in several national rodeo teams.”
