Teri Hatcher’s 1994 49ers’ Super Bowl ring gifted to her by ownership comes under scrutiny for looking vastly different than player’s

Teri Hatcher’s 1994 49ers Super Bowl ring, which was gifted to her by the owner, has come under scrutiny because it looks very different from the player’s ring.

The Lois & Clark star showed off her bling on CBS’s “The Talk” last November, saying it was a gift from the team’s former owner Edward DeBartolo Jr.

“Honestly, the only finger it fits on anymore is my wedding finger, and since I’m single, I might as well be married to the NFL,” Hatcher said on the show.

Before she was an actress, Hatcher was a cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers in 1984. The team will play the Detroit Lions in the NFL Conference Championship game on Sunday night – which has led to renewed questions about Hatcher’s ring.

During the interview on The Talk, she explained how she became close with the owner when former 49ers quarterback Steve Young starred in an episode of Lois & Clark.

Speculations have arisen because her diamond-encrusted ring appeared to be missing the team name, compared to the player’s ring which had it engraved on the top and bottom.

Super Bowl ring jewelers Jostens and Hatcher failed to provide insight to the SF port about the obvious difference, but J. Gorman Fine Jewelry provided some clues to the mystery.

Jessica Gorman, who works at the jewelry store across the street from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, said, “Stylistically, the diamond placement is similar.”

Do you think her ring is fake?

“I customize World Series rings for the people who receive them from the Hall of Fame, and they are not always the same,” Gorman told SF Gate, which investigated the validity of Hatcher’s ring for a recent story.

Compared to the player’s ring, Gorman noted that Hatcher’s ring featured many more diamonds and estimated it had four to five carats on it.

A mention of the solid 10-karat yellow gold ring Gold auctions revealed that DeBartolo was “so proud of the achievement that he donated a handful of rings to close family members.”

One of the trendy rings adorned with 49 diamonds sold at auction for $26,180 and had a minimum bid of $7,500.

Gorman added that Hatcher’s ring was most likely made with a computer-animated design that allows for customization, including removing text.

The process, also called ‘lost wax’, occurs when wax is melted and then molten gold is injected. There are no records of rings similar to Hatcher’s, so it is unclear exactly how many were made.

“So I’m sure they offered her something that they knew or expected she would like,” Gorman added.

Hatcher said that before she received her ring, the NFL team invited her and her parents to the Super Bowl, where they defeated the San Diego Chargers 49-26.

In addition to her role in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Hatcher also played Sidra Holland in the American sitcom Seinfeld.

She started out in several episodes, but is known for her scene in the 19th episode of season four where she goes on a date with Jerry Seinfeld.

Jerry’s ex-girlfriend and girlfriend Elaine Benes, played by Julia-Louis Dreyfus, further suggested that his date had breast implants. He then had Elaine Holland spy on her in the gym’s sauna to see if her breasts were fake or not, something Holland later discovered.

Hatcher’s character then stormed out of Jerry’s apartment before coming back in and saying, “And besides, they’re real and spectacular.”

Last year, a former writer on the hit show revealed that the staff would actively avoid cast members like Hatcher due to chaotic behind-the-scenes drama.

The writer, Patty Lin, said, “Most of the time we would just see the cast reading at the table, sitting quietly in the back and trying not to make eye contact with Teri Hatcher.”

In 2013, Hatcher dismissed rumors that she had a falling out with the Desperate Housewives crew after it was reported that her co-stars Vanessa Williams, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria had sent a parting gift to TV without her knowledge.

“That crew knows I would have jumped in front of a bus for them at any moment,” she said.

“I’ve been extremely generous those eight years and every crew member will tell you that, so it doesn’t matter what anyone writes.”
