Former Oasis frontman and Manchester City superfan Liam Gallagher has given a typically brutal response to Jurgen Klopp’s decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Klopp made the shock announcement on Friday morning after admitting he had ‘no energy left’ after nine years at Anfield.

Liverpool have been City’s main domestic rivals in recent years, with the two teams engaging in multiple titanic battles for the Premier League title.

However, Gallagher has made it clear he does not have much time for the Reds and offered them little sympathy when asked for his opinion on Klopp’s impending departure.

“Good riddance,” Gallagher replied to Radio X presenter Johnny Vaughan during an interview on the show on Friday.

‘I didn’t pay much attention, yes. Bye!’

Liverpool and City could be in for another title battle this season, with the former currently five points clear of Pep Guardiola’s side despite having played a game more.

But it will be the last before Klopp moves on, after confirming his decision to leave Liverpool in an emotional interview on the club’s official website.

“I will leave the club at the end of the season,” he said. ‘I can understand that it is a shock for many people at the moment when you hear it for the first time, but of course I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.

‘It’s that, how should I put it, I have no energy anymore. I don’t have a problem now, that’s clear.

‘I’ve known for some time that I would have to announce it at some point, but I’m doing absolutely fine now. I know I can’t do the job again and again and again and again.’

Klopp later revealed at a special press conference on Friday afternoon that he knew he had to resign last summer after a busy transfer period in which the Liverpool squad was overhauled.

‘The summer was difficult. We have worked very hard to bring in the right players. The summer and the preparation we had were excellent. That gave me a lot of joy. But that’s not what it’s about,” he explained.

‘I like the team and the way we react, but it’s the things we have to do in addition. The planning (the transfer period is not just the period) must also be exactly in order. Then I realized that this is something I can’t do (further)… I did it so many times. Six press conferences a week for nine years!’

Tributes poured in for Klopp from the football community, with Jamie Carragher urging the German coach to ‘go out with a bang’ in his final season, while Gary Lineker praised the ‘incredible job’ Klopp has done since joining the club in 2015 Merseyside arrived.

Liverpool fans were also ‘heartbroken’ by the news which came out of the blue, much like Bill Shankly’s resignation 50 years ago.

But Gallagher is not sad to see Klopp’s back, as evidenced by his parting shot at the 56-year-old just hours after announcing he was walking away.
