Pep Guardiola has once again opened up the prospect of signing a new contract with Manchester City following his side’s FA Cup victory over Tottenham.
On the day his opponent Jurgen Klopp revealed he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season, Guardiola – whose side beat Spurs thanks to Nathan Aké’s late goal – said he could extend his stay at the Etihad.
Asked whether he still has the energy to perform at the highest level after Klopp’s news, the Spaniard, whose current contract expires at the end of next season, said: ‘I’m doing well. There is another year, I want to do it – and maybe I will extend it. I’m trying to manage it.
‘What we did last season, we now have to do more and more, that’s not going to happen. Step-by-step.
“I see my team every day and the team is there. They still argue with each other. The competition in training. They want to win. The focus they have, how they talk. How they communicate. How they celebrate.

‘Of course we will lose games, but I have a duty to see how we perform. Even I’m amazed at my players because even after everything they’ve done, they’re still there. That makes me so proud to be part of this club.’
Guardiola will become the only manager to have won the Premier League title if Klopp leaves, but the City boss added: ‘There’s always another one to come. Hopefully I will leave here (in) many years, but my time here in Liverpool was the only one. At Anfield there are many memories to tell, for many reasons there is no need to tell because everyone knows.’
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou refused to blame the referee for his side’s loss despite goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario claiming he had been fouled by Ruben Dias in the build-up to Aké’s goal.
Guardiola also insisted he was ‘so proud to be part of the club’ after City beat Tottenham 1-0
“The referee looked at it well, so we have to accept it,” the Aussie said.
“We just worked as hard as we could to stay in the game and that wasn’t going to be enough tonight.”
