Jamie Carragher and Gary Lineker lead tributes for Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool boss announces he will leave at end of season

Jamie Carragher and Gary Lineker have shared their reactions to the shock news that Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
After spending nine years in the Premier League, the German boss revealed he has ‘run out of energy’ and now is the right time to leave.
It comes after he cemented his name in the club’s history by winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Former Liverpool player and pundit Carragher wrote on X: ‘This news was always going to be a blow to the club whenever it came.
‘I thought it would take a few more years. What a manager, what a man, let’s have a blast Jurgen!’

Gary Lineker added: ‘Wow. Big news. What an incredible job he has done. A special @RestIsFootball podcast is coming to you this afternoon.’
Taking to social media, a Liverpool fan also said: ‘I’m in shock. We knew the day would come. Devastating. What an administrator. What a man.’
Another added: “Br. I’m out of words. Heartbroken. I just need a minute,” while a third said: “Nothing lasts forever. Still, it’s best to leave me alone today. YNWA.’
A fourth wrote on X: ‘Devastated as a fan. Pain for the club. But Jurgen, you have been the best of us. I am so proud that you have been our manager and I wish you nothing but good things in your normal life. Whatever you choose, it will be extraordinary.”
Klopp’s assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz are also set to leave in the summer, with the former looking for a move into management.
In a statement, Klopp said: “I can understand that it is a shock for many people at the moment when you hear it for the first time, but of course I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.
‘I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But the fact that I am still making this decision shows that I am convinced that this is the decision I have to make.

Klopp took over Liverpool from Brendan Rodgers in 2015, with the task of reorganizing a struggling side that had come close to winning trophies but often fell short.
He had to be patient for his first success, which he achieved in 2019 when his side defeated Tottenham in the Champions League final.
A year later, he led his team to their first Premier League title win in 30 years as they romped to victory with 99 points to beat their bitter rivals Man City.
