Tori Spelling reflects on late Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Luke Perry telling her that he’d been dating Madonna: ‘He played me a message from her’
Tori Spelling says Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Luke Perry confided in her that he had a romantic relationship with Madonna in the early 1990s.
Spelling, 50, opened up about the revelation on Sunday’s episode of her podcast with Jennie Garth, 90210MGrecalling details of how Perry told her about the budding relationship on the set of the hit Fox series.
“I’ll never forget him pulling me into his locker room and telling me,” Spelling said. ‘I felt so familiar: “Oh, my God, he’s telling me about Madonna!”‘
Perry, who died on March 4, 2019 at the age of 52, played Spelling an answering machine message that Madonna had left for him, Spelling said.
“Remember how we used to have answering machines, guys?” Spelling said. “He left a message for me from her. I was like, “You’re the coolest person in the world. One because you’re Luke Perry, and two because Madonna wants you.”

Garth, 51, asked Spelling, “Did I know that?” to which she replied, “Jen, we hid these things from you because you would like to hear it.”
Perry was a breakout star playing the role of Dylan McKay in the early years of the Fox teen drama. He would appear in eight of the show’s ten seasons during the period between 1990 and 2000, as he did not appear in the show’s seventh or eighth seasons while he explored other career options.
Perry met Madonna in late 1991 at an American Foundation for AIDS Research gala at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Vanity fair featured in the July 1992 issue.
Madonna had personally called the pop culture heartthrob to present her with an award at the event after the scheduled host, the late show business icon Elizabeth Taylor, fell ill with the flu.
Perry and the musical icon kissed while he was on stage at the event, sparking rumors of a romance, according to Vanity Fair.
After their romance, Perry married Rachel Sharpe in 1993, and the couple married until 2003, during which time they welcomed son Jack, 26, and daughter Sophie, 23. Jack is a professional wrestler with AEW, while Sophie is an actress.
After dating Perry, Madonna moved on to romances with actor Carlos Leon, who is father to her daughter Lourdes Leon, 27. The Material Girl then married filmmaker Guy Ritchie, who is father to her son Rocco Ritchie, 23.
Madonna has also adopted four children: son David Banda, 18, (with Ritchie); daughter Mercy James, 18; and twin daughters Stella and Estere, 11.

The spelling is on point as she turns the page on a challenging 2023 that saw her deal with a series of financial problems, uncertain living conditions, physical illness and her divorce from estranged husband Dean McDermott.
The past year has been a rough one for other cast members of Beverly Hills, 90210 .
Shannen Doherty had to undergo a surgical procedure to remove a tumor from her head taken on January 16, 2023, and announced the news amid her long-running health battle in June. (Doherty was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and said in February 2020 that she had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.)
Also in January, Doherty and ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko split, and she revealed they divorced in April amid “irreconcilable differences.”
The show’s Ian Ziering told it People last month that Doherty has “always been a fighter,” and is “a truly incredible woman.”
He said of her health struggles: “It’s not over yet. She has a long road ahead of her. She is so courageous and strong and serves as a role model for those facing similar adversity.”
Ziering suffered a dangerous incident on the last day of the year, when he was attacked by several mini cyclists while riding on Hollywood Boulevard on December 31. He suffered no injuries during the terrifying altercation, which remains under investigation.
The new year started on a sad note, as David Gail, who played Stuart Carson in the eight-episode series from 1991-1994, died earlier this year in what authorities were investigating as a possible drug overdose.
