Trump and Haley hustle for last-minute votes a day after DeSantis drops out. Follow live updates

The race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination centers on two major candidates with just one day to go until the Republican Party’s first primary in New Hampshire.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, once seen as Donald Trump’s biggest obstacle in the Republican Party primaries, dropped his bid on Sunday and endorsed the former president over former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

On Monday, Haley has events planned in Franklin and Salem, while Trump has an evening rally in Laconia. He will spend the first half of the day in court in New York, where he could possibly testify in his defamation trial for calling sex abuse accuser E. Jean Carroll a liar.

As Trump nears the Republican nomination, the effective audition to become his vice president is underway.

His decisive victory in last week’s Iowa caucuses and DeSantis’ exit from the race on Sunday only reinforced the already widespread sense of inevitability.

This has resulted in visits from New York Rep. in the past week. Elise Stefanik, as well as South Carolina Senator Tim Scott and Ohio Senator JD Vance, feel like tryouts for the role are reminiscent of Trump’s days as a reality TV host.

Others who have appeared on Trump’s behalf in Iowa and New Hampshire include South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. Lake was at a rally Sunday night to take photos with supporters and hold a baby in the crowd.

Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy appeared with Trump on stage in New Hampshire a day after he withdrew from the race, also drawing chants of “VP” from the crowd as he delivered a fiery speech.
