Neighbours at war in Vaucluse – one of Sydney’s richest suburbs: Fed-up resident drops 300 letters

A war of words has broken out in one of Sydney’s most expensive suburbs after two wild parties kept a local awake.

Sam, a resident in his late 30s, has had enough and has delivered 300 letters to his neighbors in the affluent harbor district of Vaucluse in Sydney’s east, urging them to make complaints to police about the parties.

In the letter, which was shared on Reddit on Monday, Sam claimed he asked the presenters to turn down the music. However, instead of complying, the hosts continued partying until the early hours.

“You may have noticed loud parties in the area on both Friday and Saturday nights,” Sam wrote in the letter.

‘If you haven’t heard them, then you can consider yourself lucky: you either have a well-insulated house and/or you are a deep sleeper.

‘Both evenings I asked the residents to turn down the volume. Especially on Saturday, this had the opposite of the desired effect.

‘The music, as well as the singing/shouting and general raucous behaviour, was loudest between 12pm and 2.30am.’

The fed-up neighbour, named Sam, branded the hosts ‘miscreants’ and described their behavior as ‘selfish and disgraceful’, and claimed to have filed a police report regarding the parties.

Sam described the hosts’ behavior as ‘selfish and disgraceful’; behavior that he believes reflects the self-centered mentality of the younger generation.

He added that the letter was not an “old angry man shouting at children to get off his lawn,” but a call for common decency.

“This kind of behavior is selfish and disgraceful. It is symptomatic of the degradation of values and total self-determination and the disregard for the well-being of anyone but oneself,” he wrote.

‘A narcissistic ‘self as the center of the universe’ mentality – increasingly common among the younger generation(s).”

“This is not the case of the old, angry man yelling at kids to get off his lawn. How about a little common decency? Attention, kindness, empathy, respect, compassion, sensitivity; you know, decency. That used to be a thing.’

The resident added that he called the police as the legal limit for music is 12pm, but they were unable to attend due to ‘higher priority calls elsewhere’.

KIIS FM breakfast presenter Kyle Sandilands, who lives near the party house, said he had received a letter and could even hear the music from across the water.

Sandilands and his co-host Jackie’O Henderson spoke to Sam about the two-night party bender on Sunday.

“It got a little out of hand,” Sam said. ‘It used to happen a lot but it would end around midnight, but now they end a lot later.

“I would like to say that the issue with that particular household has been effectively resolved,” Sam said.

‘The father of the house contacted me, we had a short conversation. It wasn’t an ideal exchange, but I felt like it was resolved in the end.

The radio hosts also spoke to one of the party hosts, 23-year-old Jordan, who apologized to his neighbors on air.

Jordan explained that he threw the impromptu parties, with no more than 50 guests attending each bash

The 23-year-old said he heard about the letter after his friends sent him copies “laughing.”

He felt like Sam could handle the situation in a more “mature way,” but the issue was resolved after Sam and his father spoke.

“I only heard this letter because all my neighbors sent it to me laughing,” Sam said.

‘It was wrong on that level, but the way he came across and the way he wanted to portray it was wrong. He could have handled it in a much more mature way, but it has now been resolved on our side.

‘He (father) was like, ‘boys will be boys.’ I know what I did was wrong by organizing it a little too late, but it was in the silly season, the end of the year and it is what it is.

‘I would like to apologize to all my neighbors for disturbing them.’

Jackie O asked if Jordan wanted to speak to Sam, to which Jordan replied, “No, not at all.”

‘We spoke briefly. I don’t want to interact with that man anymore. It’s okay.’
