Nikki Haley is 19 points behind Donald Trump with two days until New Hampshire’s primary election, new poll reveals

  • Nikki Haley is 1% ahead of Trump among independent voters in New Hampshire
  • A new poll comes just two days before the country’s first primaries
  • Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has just 6% support among Republicans in the state

Just two days before New Hampshire voters head to the polls, Nikki Haley is falling further behind Donald Trump compared to her position earlier this month.

Among Republican voters in the First-in-the-Nation state, 55 percent say they support former President Trump, which is 19 percent more than those who say they support former U.N. Ambassador Haley (36 percent).

Meanwhile, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has fallen to a distant third place with just 6 percent support. according to the Suffolk poll commissioned by NBC10 Boston and the Boston Globe.

The results follow Haley’s disappointing third-place finish in the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 15, where she earned 19.1 percent. The caucus gave Trump a huge 51 percent victory and DeSantis a second-place finish with 21.2 percent.

A New Hampshire Republican primary shows Nikki Haley 19% behind Donald Trump among the state’s Republican voters — but 1% ahead of the former president among independent voters

Haley hopes for a better result in the more moderate state of New Hampshire, where voters indicate they are less enamored by Trump’s MAGA agenda and DeSantis’ “anti-woke” ideology.

In a pair of previous polls, Haley was within single digits of Trump — and an American Research Group survey from Jan. 12 to 15 found them tied at 40 percent each. A Jan. 4-8 poll from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center/CNN found Haley trailing Trump by just 7 percent.

However, the latest shows Haley falling nearly 20 points behind after her third-place finish in Iowa.

Independent voters could be Haley’s saving grace in Tuesday’s primary as they appear to be the wild card, according to the Suffolk/NBC/Boston Globe poll. Independent voters may vote in the primaries and cast their votes for whomever they wish.

Many who lean left claim they will write President Joe Biden’s name in Tuesday’s vote.

Among Republican voters, Haley is trailing by 19 percent, but when independent voters were surveyed, she was actually 1 point ahead of Trump.

Forty-five percent of 217 independent voters surveyed say they will vote for Haley, while 44 percent say they will vote for Trump.

Only 5 percent say they will vote for DeSantis.

The polls in Iowa proved to be quite accurate, with Trump winning by dozens of points over Haley and DeSantis, as well as biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, both of whom have since dropped out of the race.

Ramaswamy has since endorsed Trump, as has Sen. Tim Scott, who dropped out of the 2024 Republican primary in mid-November.
