Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa breaks his silence over co-star Millie Gibson ‘being dropped from show after just one series’
Ncuti Gatwa has broken his silence on Millie Gibson’s reported departure from Doctor Who after just one series.
The former Coronation Street actress, 19, made her long-awaited debut as the Fifteenth Doctor’s companion Ruby Sunday in the 2023 Christmas special.
The upcoming 2024 season of the hit sci-fi show returns to screens this May for an eight-episode series, with Ncuti Gatwa taking over the role of the iconic Time Lord.
However, Millie’s character Ruby has reportedly already been written out by showrunner Russell T Davies and it is said she will be replaced by Varada Sethu for Ncuti’s second series.
After the news became public, Ncuti took to his Instagram Stories, shared a photo with Millie and wrote: “My little one (heart emoji).

Millie has so far remained silent on reports that she has left the show. On Friday, she shared a clip on her Instagram Stories as she left Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica.
An insider said The mirror: ‘Millie Gibson has pretty much left now and there’s a brand new companion, which is really exciting. Russell keeps things moving and doesn’t let the grass grow, that’s for sure.”
It is claimed that Millie will be finishing the show in the coming weeks to ‘tie up loose ends’ and will not appear in the 2024 Christmas special.
She will reportedly only appear in a handful of episodes before being replaced by Varada, 32, who has reportedly already started filming at the Cardiff studios.
Varada is known for playing DS Mishal Ali in the BBC apocalyptic TV series Hard Sun and also appeared in Now You See Me 2 as Michael Caine’s character’s assistant.
She is also recognizable for her role as Cinta in Disney’s Star Wars spin-off series Andor, starring Diego Luna.
Previous Doctor Who companion Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie, had just one series appearance in the sci-fi show alongside Peter Capaldi’s version of the Doctor.
Other companions have been on the show for several years, including Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald, Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler, and Karen Gillan’s Amy Pond.

The news comes just weeks after Doctor Who fans finally saw Ncuti and Millie together on screen in the highly anticipated Christmas special.
The festive episode saw Ncuti’s incarnation of the famous traveler battle an army of goblins bent on causing misfortune for Ruby (Millie), an orphan determined to discover the truth about her past.
Written by showrunner Russell T Davies, Ncuti’s performance was widely praised by fans, with many stunned to learn of his unexpected singing talents during the episode’s musical number.
The Goblin Song had been released as a single earlier this month, but Ncuti and his co-star Millie’s vocals had been kept secret from viewers.
Ncuti made his first appearance as The Doctor in the third 60th Anniversary Special – when David Tennant’s Doctor was ‘bi-generated’ and two incarnations of the Time Lord were created – before officially taking over the role in the Christmas special.
