Selena Gomez will guest star in a planned sequel to Wizards of Waverly Place, the hit show that turned her into a teen idol.

Original star David Henrie is also on board to star and executive produce the potential reboot, which has just been commissioned as a pilot for now. Deadline reports.

The fantasy teen sitcom – created by Todd J. Greenwald – originally aired on Disney Channel for four seasons between October 2007 and January 2012.

Gomez – who will also serve as executive producer – will reprise her role as Alex Russo, while Henrie will star as his character Justin Russo.

According to the report, the new series will pick up after a mysterious incident at WizTech, in which an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind and opted for a normal, human life with his wife (Gianopulos) and two sons (one of whom will are played by Thiele).

“But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard (Brown) in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to secure the future of the Wizarding World.”

It’s a somewhat surprising move for Gomez, who appears to be venturing into more serious acting roles just a week after it was revealed she would be playing Linda Ronstadt in a biopic.

That project is led by four-time Oscar nominee David O. Russell, who directed Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook, which earned her the 2013 Academy Award for Best Actress.

Gomez also stars in the hugely popular Only Murders in the Building, the comedy and mystery television series created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman.

Its popularity has attracted big stars, most recently Golden Globes GOAT Meryl Streep.

Outside of acting, Gomez has found success with her cooking show Selena + Chef on HBO Max, which has run for a whopping five seasons to date.

All these TV and film projects come at a time when the star is set to end her music career.

The Texas native recently shared that she feels like she has another album in her.

Gomez – who has romanced music producer Benny Blanco – told Smartless podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett: β€œI started having a lot of fun with music and then touring was really fun.

β€œBut I was doing my TV show (Wizards of Waverly Place) at the same time, and I just really enjoyed it, so I just kept going. “But the older I get, the more I think, ‘I’d like to find something to settle down on.’

β€œAnd if she had to choose which career path to choose right now, it wouldn’t be her music.

β€œI feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting,” she concluded.
