Ian Poulter has taken to Twitter to criticize the Swedish Golf Federation for ending its partnership with fellow LIV Golf competitor Henrik Stenson.
The move follows Stenson’s departure to the Saudi-backed circuit in early July, during which he turned his back on the PGA Tour to join other big names in taking a massive pay raise.
“We believe that given his involvement with LIV Golf, Henrik can no longer be a role model for Swedish junior golfers,” Gunnar Hakansson, secretary general of SGF, told TT news agency.
It’s a move Poulter reacted to with sharp words on social media.

Poulter took to Twitter to call the split in the partnership ‘more than disappointing’
On Twitter, Poulter said: “More than disappointing to hear this news.
“I really hope the Juniors/Disability golfers can have their say. I hope you regret this SGF.
‘The greatest Swedish male golfer. The Open Champ, 2 X Race to Dubai winner, FedEx Cup champion, Players Champ. Just to name a few of Henrik Stenson’s victories.’
Stenson acknowledged the dumping on his… Instagram, to write; “Of course we are disappointed that the SGF feels that our commitment and financial support through the Henrik Stenson Foundation is no longer desired.
“But this will in no way affect our drive to develop junior and para golf in Sweden.”
Previously, Stenson, former No. 2 in the world, was an ambassador for the Federation’s Paragolf and Paragolf Tour with Stenson — according to his website — consistently donating prize money from the winner of the Swedish Golfer of the Year to the entities.
Stenson had also broken his Ryder Cup ties in the wake of joining LIV Golf, despite signing up as Team Europe captain for the 2023 event.
Stenson said he was “naturally disappointed” by the news that the partnership was over
While previously noting that he would not be joining the breakaway circuit, Stenson freaked out and was stripped of the captaincy as a result.
“There has been a lot of back and forth speculation, and as I said, I am fully committed to the captaincy and to Ryder Cup Europe and the track ahead,” Stenson said at his Ryder Cup press conference in March.
“So we’ll keep working on that and I’m going to do everything I can to deliver a winning team in Rome.”
Stenson never made it to Rome and instead joined LIV Golf ahead of the first event in Bedminster, NJ. — which he won, on a payday of $4 million.
