I’m a pilot and there are two things I will never do as a passenger on a plane – and you’re probably guilty of them
Pilots have revealed things they would never do when flying as a passenger – and many people are guilty of these acts.
They said never board the plane without your own bottle of water so you can stay hydrated at times when the cabin crew are busy or need to remain seated during turbulence.
Another advised those who like to sit back and take off their shoes during a flight to never go to the airplane toilets barefoot or without shoes.
“It’s understandable that many passengers take off their shoes when seated for comfort during the flight, but I always make sure I wear shoes when I go to the toilet,” Stefán Dór Arnarsson, pilot with Icelandic airline PLAY, told me. HuffPost.
Michelle Gooris, a charter airline pilot and blogger, called the act “crazy” because the “water droplets” you often see on the floor are often something much more sinister.
Pilots and flight attendants have shared things they would never do when traveling as a passenger
Going to the toilet barefoot has long been a topic of discussion online, with flight attendants agreeing that passengers should always wear shoes when going to the toilet.
‘Please never walk into a toilet with bare feet. I promise you, nine times out of 10, it’s not water on the floor,” one flight attendant said. Reddit.
‘The toilets are often absolutely disgusting and only cleaned thoroughly at the end of a route… For us this could be from one side of the world to the other… imagine how beautiful they are at the end of a 12-hour flight with 200 people using them.’
“It’s not water on the toilet floors. It’s peeing. Wear your shoes. People are generally disgusting on planes,” another cabin crew member added.
Another good tip from pilot Jeanie Carter was to never get on a plane without its own water.
A pilot advised those who like to sit back and take off their shoes during a flight to never go to the airplane toilets barefoot or without shoes
She said she always stops at a store in the terminal to get a bottle of water or brings her own bottle to fill up before boarding.
“On commercial flights, I have noticed that there are times when the flight attendant cannot serve refreshments due to a very short flight or due to reported turbulence, which would make it unsafe for the flight attendants to have the carts in the aisles,” she said.
Jeanie said it’s helpful to have your own drink to avoid thirst since flight attendants are busy with other passengers or can’t leave their seats.
The pilot also advised pilots not to panic if the plane encounters turbulence.
She said turbulence is more of a “hurdle” than a hazard, but recommended staying seated with your seat belt on.

Jeanie compared flying in an airplane to sailing in a boat because while sailing you can see the waves in the water. She explained that the air in the air is a liquid, just like water, but invisible.
Pilot and former Bachelor star Jimmy Nicholson echoed Jeanie’s sentiments when he encountered the worst turbulence he’d ever experienced on a recent flight.
But he wasn’t concerned about that at all, because he knew that airplanes are built to withstand extreme turbulence and will never “fall out of the sky.”
Jimmy was traveling with his wife Holly Kingston when turbulence hit the short flight, causing dramatic scenes as the plane shook and passengers screamed and clung to the seats in front of them.
Jimmy shared his tips for staying calm in heavy turbulence, including a handy trick with a water bottle.
‘We’re at the back of the plane, so it’s even worse here. It’s not comfortable, one of the worst I’ve experienced. They could be widespread storms, so they just have to take the path of least resistance to move through,” he said in a TikTok. clamp.
‘Nothing to worry about, planes are built to withstand much worse. Not nice of course, but totally fine.’
He held up a water bottle upside down to show that the liquid inside it doesn’t move much despite the plane shaking.
Jimmy also recommended giving yourself some air through the vent and looking out a window if you can.
