6,000 security personnel have been killed in militant incidents in J&K:DGP
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain on Tuesday said that around 6,000 security personnel have been killed in the line of duty in combat-related incidents, of which more than 1,600 are from the J&K Police.
This shows the commitment of the J&K Police to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the country, Sawin said.
“Around 6,000 braves from various armed forces of the country have paid the supreme sacrifice and more than 1,600 of them are from the J&K Police alone,” Swain said at the closing ceremony of the cricket tournament commemorating the 12th martyrs in Kathua.
The DGP, soon after arriving at the venue for the closing ceremony of the tournament, paid floral tributes to the fallen heroes of the J&K Police by laying wreaths on them at the martyrs’ gallery.
DGP commended the board and sponsors for successfully organizing the cricket tournament in commemoration of the martyrs and expressed his gratitude to the people of Kathua for their active participation in honoring the martyrs.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of the ceremony, the DGP highlighted the welfare schemes for the families of J&K Police martyrs, which he said are funded from the Police Contributory Fund.
Speaking on the occasion, ADGP Anand Jain said that the J&K Police have visited the families of martyrs to address their problems and provide them support under the Sevara programme.
