Police believe the two men were the target of the shooting.
Investigators sifted through photos and videos circulating online that showed Big Jook bleeding as he lay on the ground as people tried to treat his injuries.
At this time, it remains unclear whether Memphis-based Gotti (born Mario Sentell Giden Mims) himself was with his brother at the time of the shooting.
The Doin 2 Much rapper has not yet responded to his brother’s death.
The Memphis native, who is said to have had a very close bond with his famous brother, was affiliated with Gotti’s record label Collective Music Group (CMG), where he mainly dealt with the business side, such as promoting artists.
Founded in 2012, Collective Music Group has signed successful acts including Moneybagg Yo. 42 Dugg, Blac Youngsta, GloRilla, EST Gee and Mozzy.
Gotti first broke into the hip-hop scene when he released his debut album Youngsta’s On A Come Up (1996) under the alias Lil Yo.
He subsequently released ten more studio albums, the most recent of which is CM10: Free Game (2022).
Police believe Big Jook, who was reportedly close to his famous brother, was the gunman’s target
Some people have taken to the internet to reveal that they believe the shooting of Mims may be connected to the November 2021 murder of Young Dolph (born Adolph Robert Thornton Jr.).
The rapper, who was 36 at the time, was shot dead in Memphis while visiting Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies, a bakery he frequented when he was home.
That shooting, along with Saturday’s murder that killed Mims, both happened not far from Gotti’s restaurant.
At last check, investigators had not released any information about any suspects connected to the case.
