  • Eagle Pass has become a flashpoint in the migrant crisis, with record numbers of crossings taking place

Texas National Guards were seen using riot shields in an attempt to stop a horde of migrants crossing Eagle Pass.

New footage of a clash a month ago shows guards narrowly avoiding being hit by a rock as they struggle with the steady stream of asylum seekers.

A record number of migrants have crossed the Texas border in recent months, with 14,000 reaching the border in a 24-hour period last month.

Video shows the reality on the ground as asylum seekers scramble over barbed wire and through mud in a desperate bid to reach the US.

All the while, you can see the Texas National Guard trying to block their path using plastic riot shields.

As they crowd the crowd that contains at least one child, a rock is thrown at the head of a soldier who narrowly sails past.

At one point you see a female migrant being shunted over the guards and falling on top of other screaming migrants.

Once the guards close the gap, another one appears further along the border and two more migrants manage to slip through.

Another clip shows a migrant who survived being thrown to the ground by the National Guard.

As he stands up, he is escorted to a waiting crowd of people who have already crossed.

Eagle Pass has become a flashpoint in the migrant crisis, with the city struggling to accommodate the steady flow of people coming from across the Mexican border.

Border Patrol agents in the city did not have enough space to handle the enormous numbers and held them in an open field for days in a makeshift holding center.

Elsewhere, Border Patrol agents normally stationed at checkpoints along the route into the U.S. were also redirected to assist in Eagle Pass.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent more than 100,000 migrants arriving in the state to sanctuary cities as part of Operation Lone Star

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent more than 100,000 migrants arriving in the state to sanctuary cities as part of Operation Lone Star

Earlier this week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed an emergency order to take control of a large public park along the Rio Grande without seeking permission.

The park is a new point of tension in Eagle Pass, where large waves of migrants temporarily closed a railroad crossing and overwhelmed shelters last month.

US Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas visited Eagle Pass on Monday, days after Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson toured the border city.

But Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas questioned why the state was closing the 50-acre park now, as daily concerns in the region have subsided in recent weeks.

Shelby Park borders the river, includes a ramp for boaters and has been used by the state to stage vehicles and equipment for its border mission known as Operation Lone Star.

Introduced by Abbott in 2022, Operation Lone Star sees the state transport thousands of migrants from Texas to so-called sanctuary cities such as New York, Chicago, Washington and Denver.

Since its introduction, more than 100,000 migrants have been sent to such cities so far, according to the governor.
