Tens of thousands of jobs in bars, nightclubs and live music venues are at stake this winter, industry associations warned, claiming the mini-Budget was “completely wrong.”
Businesses are said to be ‘still vulnerable’ despite the government offering a £60bn bailout to help them cover rising energy costs this winter.

The industry has lobbied ministers for months to cut VAT and extend corporate tariff exemptions and energy aid to keep businesses going for months to come. Friday’s statement made no mention of changes in VAT or business rates.
Mike Kill, head of the Night Time Industries Association, said, “In isolation, lighting the utility bill won’t be enough.”
He said other measures, such as scrapping a planned alcohol tax hike, won’t come through soon enough to help struggling businesses.
