Inside the family life of new Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo: Super Bowl champion, 37, lives in stunning $2.5m mansion with a pool, movie theater and bar, alongside his wife Chantel and their four kids
The New England Patriots just announced Jerod Mayo as their new head coach, a day after the organization and Bill Belichick agreed to part ways after a 24-year run that included six Super Bowl victories.
Details were still being worked out Friday, but the former linebacker played eight NFL seasons and won a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots during the 2014 season after being drafted by New England with the 10th overall pick in the 2008 draft.
Jerod immediately rose to the top of the list of viable Belichick successors after the Patriots took the unique step of announcing they were giving the assistant a long-term extension last season.
Jerod, along with Belichick’s son and fellow linebackers coach Steve Belichick, handled play calling duties for the Patriots defense the past two seasons. His younger brother, Deron, is currently the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Patriots.
Now, at 37, Jerod is the youngest head coach in the NFL, overtaking Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams.

Chya is the oldest of the three girls and was born in 2010, while Jerod Jr. ‘arrived exactly a year later to the day’. Chyanne is believed to be the youngest. She was born in 2014. It is unclear when Chylo was born.
The Mayos evened the blow in July 2012. Their home – 42 miles south of Boston – was built on two separate lots and includes five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a spa room with a hot tub, a finished basement with a screening room. theater, a billiard room. Chantel is described on the website as a “mompreneur who is redefining cohesive kids style.”
She has an “extensive background” in beauty products and has worked with celebrities in the past. Chantel also books weddings and events and works as a floral designer through her company CM Creative Experience.
Jerod is not expected to have the same control over personnel matters that Belichick had for most of his tenure with the Patriots. In addition to being a coach, Belichick was also the de facto general manager of New England.
But Patriots owner Robert Kraft pointed out Thursday that Belichick didn’t get that power until he won his third Super Bowl with the team after the 2004 season and that Belichick “earned the power and worked pretty well most of the time.”
That means a new general manager, or some other front office restructuring, is likely next on Kraft’s plate. “I think it’s good to have checks and balances,” Kraft said.
