Prime Video’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith look like everything Citadel wasn’t in a very entertaining trailer
The official trailer for Mr. and Mrs. Smith has appeared online – and Amazon’s TV remake of the spy comedy starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie continues to look very good.
Starring Donal Glover (Atlanta, Community) and Maya Erskine (Blue-eyed samurai) – the latter replaced original star Phoebe Waller-Bridge in April 2022 – as the titular duo, Mr. and Mrs. Smith seems to be everything its Prime Video spy cousin is Citadel was not. It indeed looks funny, daring, packed with charisma and hugely entertaining, so go ahead: check out the show’s latest trailer to see for yourself:
I already figured it out Mr. and Mrs. Smith as one of the ten shows I’m looking forward to seeing in early 2024, and this latest teaser only confirms my opinion that it will be a real Prime Video hit. If it doesn’t make it onto our list of the best Prime Video shows once it’s released in early February, I’ll be very surprised.
Why? Well, apart from the fact that the lead role is played by two brilliant actors in Glover and Erskine, it just looks like a lot of fun. And with an absolutely stacked who’s who of the cast – I saw Ron Perlman, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Sarah Paulson, Michaela Coel and Wagner Moura in the latest trailer alone – there will be plenty of excellent A-listers for the show’s leading pair to bounce on.
However, fans of the original 2005 Pitt-Jolie film should note that Amazon’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith has taken some creative liberties. For starters, it’s a TV show, not a movie, and the first season will consist of eight episodes.

According to Amazon’s official story synopsis, the plot will also differ from what came before. “In this version, two lonely strangers get a job at a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel and a dream house in Manhattan,” it reads.
“The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now married, John and Jane navigate a risky mission each week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated… complicated when they discover real feelings for each other. What is riskier: espionage or marriage?’
Mr. and Mrs. SmithThe game’s official trailer comes a month after the release of the first teaser, which showed the exciting spy series with a twist. Glover also serves as co-creator and executive producer of the series with his colleague Atlanta creative Francesca Sloane helps him develop Mr. and Mrs. Smith for one of the world’s best streaming services.
If you’re in the UK, make sure you stream all eight episodes as soon as they drop on Friday, February 2. That’s because Amazon plans to introduce ads in Prime Video on British shores from February 5 (NB: ads will be on Prime Video US by that date, with Australian viewers seeing them later in 2024).
