Australian TikTok couple’s viral summer dance is ridiculed by Brits as U.K. endures snowy winter: ‘So irritating’
An Australian couple’s viral TikTok dance showcasing their glorious summer Down Under has sparked an outpouring of jealousy and anger from Brits.
The series of clips, shared by Queensland influencer Isabelle Petzl-Duncan, shows her and her boyfriend Mitchell O’Leary dancing and lip-syncing to the song ‘Wake Up’ by British band The Vamps.
The couple are seen in various sunny locations, enjoying the clear skies and warmth of the Gold Coast.
Lyrics playing over their dance include the words: “Waking up in the morning with the sunlight in my eyes. No, my head doesn’t feel very clear.’
However, many British commentators have ridiculed the couple in the comments and through their own versions of the dance.

“So annoying this song,” one wrote.
Others accused the duo of being one trick ponies with so many variations on the same video.
“6 videos with this sound in the last four days,” said one critic.
“I CAN’T KNOW WHAT THIS IS LIKE THE MILLIONTH,” another frustrated viewer added.
Currently battling snowstorms and icy roads, many British TikTokkers have recreated the duo’s performances with their own seasonal version of the dance.
“Instead, we’re in the UK in winter, it’s cold and I’ve got spotlights on,” was the title of one tribute video.
While an Australian expat expressed her own longing for home in the comments: ‘I was forced to move from Australia to Britain, I’m an Aussie girl through and through, but I’m a hostage.’
Since their original video, the pair have continued to ‘rub it in’ with their UK followers, posting follow-up clips featuring the same song but in different idyllic settings
UK TikTokkers have been recreating the duo’s performances, but couldn’t help but express envy over the sun-kissed tan lines and overall positive vibe their Australian inspiration enjoyed. “Instead we’re in the UK in winter, it’s cold and I’ve got spotlights on,” captioned a tribute video
However, some Australians on TikTok were quick to dispute the point about the beautiful weather.
“Don’t worry, none of us have brown lines at an ATM, we’ve all been stuck inside for weeks thanks to storms,” one commenter noted.
The TikTok trend has quickly caught on and other famous couples, such as Love Island’s Zac and Lucinda, have made their own versions of the dance videos.
Petzl-Duncan has since shared the videos on Instagram, spreading the trend to another platform.
But the trend continues to turn heads on TikTok, racking up millions of views across its many similar videos so far.
