Mothers’ Instinct first trailer: Anne Hathaway is almost unrecognizable as a 1960s suburban housewife whose life unravels in a psychological thriller

The first trailer for the film Mothers’ Instinct was shared on Tuesday morning.

Anne Hathaway stars as Celine and Jessica Chastain is Alice; they are two best friends who are neighbors in a serene atmosphere Urban community from the 1960s.

However, their lives take a downward spiral after the tragic death of Celine’s son Max in the highly anticipated psychological thriller.

Suspicions arise, testing their close bond.

“Mother’s instinct: sometimes it’s the only thing you can rely on,” is the slogan on the poster.

The film is an adaptation of Barbara Abel’s 2012 novel Derriere le Haine (Behind the Hate), with the story set in the 1960s.

The story centers on Alice (Chastain) and Celine (Hathaway), who both live traditional, idyllic lifestyles, each with successful husbands and sons of the same age.

However, their lives are turned upside down by tragedy, as their sisterly bond fades and gives way to a psychological war of wits.

Masset-Depasse directs from a script by Sarah Conradt (50 States of Fright), an adaptation of Abel’s novel.

Chastain produces through her company Freckle Films (The 355) with her partner Kelly Carmichael, alongside Paul Nelson at Mozaïek and Jacques-Henri Bronckart.

European financier Anton will fully finance and produce the film.

“It takes actors of the caliber of Jessica and Anne to convey the complexity of these two roles,” director Masset-Depasse said in a statement.

“The relationship between mother and child is the most powerful connection between two people,” the director added.

‘When this bond is broken, conventional morality and even common sense are called into question.

“In the behind-closed-doors atmosphere of 1960s America, Mothers’ Instinct becomes a terrifying high-pressure powder keg,” the director concluded.

This project marks the first time Hathaway and Chastain have both starred in the same film since starring in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar in 2014.

Both are seen in traditional costumes.

In addition to a bright red lipstick, Hathaway has an otherwise natural makeup look, consisting of foundation, blush and bronzer.

Meanwhile, Chastain loves her pearl earrings, a white bag and heels.

For the film, she traded her signature red locks for a blonde wig, which was styled in a sophisticated updo.
