Taylor Swift left the Golden Globes EARLY after host Jo Koy's joke about her love life… as the comedian defends his snub by saying it was 'cute'
Taylor Swift reportedly left the 81st Golden Globe Awards early after her concert film, The Eras Tour, was defeated by Margot Robbie's Barbie on Sunday night.
After the disappointing loss and suffering a 'low blow' burst in her love life during host Jo Koy's opening monologue, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the 34-year-old pop star appeared to make a premature exit from the awards show, held at The Beverly . Hills Hilton.
As she gave the cast of Barbie a standing ovation for their win, social media users noticed her absence from the audience not long after the defeat.
“90% sure Taylor left the event…she hasn't been seen since Barbie,” wrote one viewer on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Premature exit: Taylor Swift reportedly left the 81st Golden Globe Awards early after her concert film, The Eras Tour, was defeated by Margot Robbie's Barbie on Sunday night
Early dipping: After the disappointing loss and enduring a 'low blow' about her love life during host Jo Koy's opening monologue, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the pop star, 34, appeared to quickly exit the awards show, which was being held at the Beverly Hills Hilton
Another frantically asked: “TAYLOR LEFT?!??”
A third joked that she was probably thinking: 'Well I didn't win, this show sucks, there's nothing fun to do here anymore and the presenter sucks, bye!!'
One Swiftie speculated that she most likely left early with her boyfriend Keleigh Sperry to “go party and enjoy the social aspects of the awards show…not because she lost or because of a prank.”
While it's unclear whether Swift actually slipped away prematurely, she didn't leave immediately after Koy made fun of her relationship with Travis Kelce.
During the live broadcast, Koy received a death glare from the 12-time Grammy winner, who declared that “the big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL” is that they “show less camera footage of Taylor Swift.”
In response, Swift pursed her lips and took a sip of her drink as the audience laughed.
After being asked about the artist's unamused reaction to his joke, Koy insisted he meant no harm with the joke.
“Aw man, it was cute. “I just said it was cute,” the 52-year-old stand-up comedian said AND of the joke. “I just said it's less cutaways, that's all.”

It makes sense: One Swiftie speculated that she most likely returned early, along with her boyfriend Keleigh Sperry, to “go party and enjoy the social aspects of the awards show…not because she lost or because of a prank.”
“You can't win every award Tay,” one hater wrote
Another asked the audience to 'let her breathe'
The reporter then suggested that maybe Swift was just “thirsty” and needed to “drink the champagne” at that exact moment.
“Aww, man,” Koy replied, before shaking the reporter's hand and smiling.
Koy also clarified to Extra that his joke “was a compliment” and his attempt to inform her “she could be more intimate tonight, that's all.”
The joke sparked immediate reactions from fans who wrote: 'Cause of death for Jo Koy: that look Taylor Swift gave him while sipping her drink.'
Another wrote: “Does the fool who hosts the Golden Globes and just made a joke about Taylor Swift realize that millions of viewers had to google who the hell Jo Koy is!???”
Others wrote: 'Oh Joe… don't come for Ms. Swift! *takes sip*
'Agree. Awkward laughter. And using Taylor Swift in a joke that stopped being funny months ago was a cheap shot.
'That joke just didn't make sense and wasn't funny. Why bring up the NFL just to talk about Taylor Swift?
Another supported Koy, saying, “Taylor can't take a joke? He didn't even put her down. It was a dissension with the NFL because of the way they monitored her. It was funny and innocent.'
Going strong: Swift and Kelce first sparked dating rumors in September (pictured in October 2023)
His biggest cheerleader: Kelce couldn't be Swift's date to the Golden Globes because of the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood
The pop sensation earned a nomination in the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category for the record-breaking film of her hit “Eras Tour” concert.
Kelce couldn't be Swift's date to the Golden Globes because of the Kansas City Chiefs' game against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
However, the loved-up couple has been spending a lot of time together in Kansas City in recent weeks.
Swift even celebrated the holidays and rang in the new year with her beau after cheering for him at two Chiefs games.
Outside of Arrowhead Stadium, they also reportedly spent quality time with each other and their families at the tight end's new $6 million mansion over Christmas.
With the festive season now over, the singer left Kansas City on Tuesday as she continues to enjoy her time off before her Eras Tour begins again.
She and Kelce ended 2023 on a high as the Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 25-17 on New Year's Eve, with the Anti-Hero hitmaker taking up residence in an Arrowhead suite.
They later shared a passionate kiss as the clock struck midnight in Kansas City, with the loved-up couple celebrating the arrival of 2024 with a glitzy party surrounded by friends.
