January 20 can't come soon enough for Thomas Frank. After eight long months, he can finally call on the services of Ivan Toney after the striker served the last game of his suspension.

Brentford may have stopped the rot after five successive defeats, but they need their talisman after being pinned by ten-man Wolves in a spirited affair.

Frank's side, who were missing eleven players for the match – with a further two added to the treatment table – dominated possession but seriously lacked final quality against Gary O'Neil's resilient side.

The two sides will have to do it all again at Molineux after Tommy Doyle's stunner canceled out Neal Maupay's opener in a clash that could have hinged on the ninth-minute red card dealt to Joao Gomes.

Before that, the visitors almost took the lead when Thomas Strakosha passed straight to Matheus Cunha on the edge of his own penalty area, but the stand-in keeper did just enough to contain the danger.

Then disaster struck for the visitors. As Norgaard advanced the ball, Gomes came in to win the ball but instead caught the Bees skipper, who had to be sent off the pitch, on his ankle.

Referee Tony Harrington took his time before waving a red circle – much to the bewilderment of the crowd – and VAR confirmed his decision.

From then on the game followed a familiar pattern with the Bees dominating the game, but without that edge, until they broke the deadlock.

On 41 minutes, Mathias Jensen delivered a fierce free-kick and the ball bounced around the penalty area before Maupay fired home emphatically with his left foot.

Pedro Neto changed the game from the bench in the second half as Wolves built up some pressure, and when Tommy Doyle fired home a stunning left-footed effort after a well-worked corner from outside the penalty area, the away match exploded.

Brentford piled on the pressure late on but Wolves defended heroically, with Jose Sa making a point-blank save from Keane Lewis-Potter to ensure his side earned a replay.
