An Australian couple with a 32-year age difference have opened up about how they met – and turned a blind eye to the haters and strangers who ask if they are 'related'.

Scarlet, 24, and Scott, 56, have been dating for almost four years and say that while they aren't perfect, they are perfect together.

'We don't really pay much attention to other people, we focus on each other. If someone comes up and assumes we are related, we just try to laugh it off,” Scarlet told FEMAIL.

Before they met, Scott was going through a divorce and was ready to give up on love.

In a TikTok video, the FIFO worker explained that he had turned to “sugar daddy” websites and tried to “work things out.” But things took an unexpected turn and the couple fell in love.

'I have never done this for any financial gain. It was always about support, mentorship, companionship, unconditional friendship and real feelings,” Scarlet told FEMAIL.

Together, the Perth couple have helped each other through tough times and mental health challenges.

'I had just come out of a marriage and was struggling with being overwhelmed by loneliness, which was causing anxiety. Scarlet has a huge heart and is very empathetic, so we got to talking,” Scott said.

Scarlet said that when she was dealing with her own problems, Scott was the “only one who really supported her.”

Many have criticized the pair, claiming they wouldn't have common interests due to their age difference – which Scarlet branded 'ridiculous'.

“Good music is good music, a great movie is a great movie, interest is timeless,” she said.

Scarlet told FEMAIL: 'We have never done this for any financial gain. It was always about support, mentorship, companionship, unconditional friendship and real feelings.”

The couple has openly discussed their relationship on TikTok under the name @agegap5ever.

Like any couple, they have challenging days, but the Scarlet said they “balance each other out” and share the same life values.

“We talk all the time about having a long, happy future together – we're not perfect, but we are perfect together,” Scarlet said.

They have also received mixed reactions from others about their age difference, but choose not to respond to negative comments.

'We want to help people share a little joy, give love to other people the same as we do. We hope that every time we go live (on TikTok) we want just one person to feel better about themselves,” Scarlet said.

In the comments of one video, someone wrote, “You guys are so cute together,” and another said, “Beautiful couple.”
