The final confrontation at the Darts World Cup between Luke Littler and Luke Humphries attracted no fewer than 3.75 million viewers for Sky Sports on Wednesday evening.

Fans turned out in droves to watch the history-making teenager take on the world number 1 and become the largest non-football audience for a single event in the broadcaster's history.

The interest in runner-up Littler has brought many new viewers to the sport, with the 16-year-old's semi-final against Rob Cross being the first record-breaking event.

More than 2.3 million fans watched as the teenager defeated Cross 6-2 in his penultimate match, making history as the youngest-ever finalist at the tournament.

The broadcast was the most watched darts match in history, but the numbers almost doubled the following evening when Littler fell to the new world number 1.
