Watch MLB legend and three-time World Series champion David Ortiz hilariously fail to hit the ball at his baby’s gender reveal

Retirement rust was evident for baseball legend David Ortiz at the gender reveal for his fourth child.

Ortiz, 48, and his pregnant girlfriend Maria Yeribell Martinez paid tribute to his baseball days with the gender reveal. But after a long career playing balls from the best throwers in the world, 'Big Papi' failed to hit a ball gently lobbed in front of him.

Ortiz hit nothing but air as he swung at the ball. Nevertheless, the blue confetti told everyone that he and Martinez will have a son. The clip ends with Ortiz and his friends celebrating after he briefly tried to find the ball.

Fans took to social media to react to the hilarious miss by one of baseball's greatest players.

“If Joaquin Benoit had thrown it he would have crushed it,” one fan commented.

“Make sure his wife gets in the league,” another added. “Baby mama literally got him in trouble,” a third joked.

Ortiz currently has three children.

He and ex-wife Tiffany have a 22-year-old daughter, Alexandra, and a 19-year-old son, D'Angelo. They were married for 25 years before divorcing in December 2021.

In June 2023, after the divorce, Ortiz sold his five-bedroom mansion in Miami for $11 million. The property, about 11 miles from downtown Miami, featured a bar, a beautiful pool and a flashy home theater.

Ortiz's eldest daughter Jessica, 25, was from a previous relationship with Fary Almanzar Fernandez.

“Big Papi” had a .286 batting average during his 20-year MLB career. Ortiz also had 2,472 hits, 541 home runs and seven silver slugger awards in addition to three World Series titles and ten All-Star selections.
