South Korean opposition party leader Lee Jae-myung was attacked on Tuesday while visiting the southern port city of Busan.

The 59-year-old politician had been visiting the construction site of a new airport on Gadeok Island when he was stabbed in the neck during a question-and-answer session with reporters.

A video shared on social media shows Lee walking through a group of reporters when an unknown man approaches him with a knife.

Published news photos showed Lee lying on the ground with his eyes closed and the hands of other people around him pressing a handkerchief to the side of his neck.

Lee was taken to a hospital, Yonhap news agency said. It added that the attacker was subdued and arrested at the scene.
