Wedding DJ facing jail for deliberately urinating on cancer patient is banned from tennis club where he filmed vile Snapchat prank

A wedding DJ who filmed himself deliberately urinating on a cancer patient at a tennis club has been banned from the venue for life.

Leigh Brookfield, 40, admitted on Friday to multiple assaults after posting a video on Snapchat of himself deliberately splashing Peter Barton with pee at the Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club on Boxing Day.

Brookfield has been warned he will face jail after being released on bail ahead of sentencing next year – but club bosses say he will never set foot inside again.

Footage shown to Llanelli Magistrates' Court showed the DJ deliberately urinating on Mr Barton after the sick man told him about his prostate cancer.

Brookfield said “Sorry to hear that” before peeing on the man's back and sharing footage of the sick stunt with his friends online.

In a statement, Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club said they visited Mr Barton after the incident and he was 'understandably upset'.

The venue said on its official Facebook: 'It was brought to our attention by a video posted to Snapchat and subsequently posted to Facebook of an incident that took place in our club toilets.

'We were not aware of any such incident involving the esteemed member of the club and on seeing the video the gentleman was visited by the club chairman and a senior committee member early on December 28 to see how he was doing .

'He was understandably upset by this incident as he has recently undergone treatment for cancer.

“We are a family-friendly club and are devastated that our name has been bribed for this despicable act by someone unconnected to the club and through no fault of our own.

'Leigh Brookfield has been banned from the club for life for his vile actions.'

In court, prosecutor Lucy Mansfield said Barton only learned later that he had urinated.

She said: “This happened on Boxing Day this year at Llanelli Tennis and Squash Club in the toilets.

“The defendant entered the toilets and spoke to the complainant and the complainant explained that he had recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“While this was happening, the suspect urinated on the complainant and while this was happening a video was posted online.”

Playing the Snapchat footage, Ms Mansfield added: 'The complainant did not realize he was being urinated on at the time, but has since.'

The court heard Brookfield had committed previous crimes while drunk.

Steven John, defending, asked for a pre-sentence report to be carried out to address Brookfield's drinking.

He added: 'This was clearly committed under the influence of drink and there is a history of alcohol-related offending.'

Brookfield, from Llanelli, was released on bail but warned that 'all options', including custody, would be considered when he returns to court for sentencing.

Police launched an investigation after Brookfield posted the images online, but sparked outrage with his vile actions.

Officers confirmed they had received a series of complaints and Brookfield was subsequently charged with common assault.

The DJ, who performs in bars and at weddings around Llanelli, West Wales, posted an apology on Facebook before deleting his account.

He wrote: 'I apologize to all of you for my actions tonight. I am deeply sorry to those I offended and if I could take it all back, I would.

“It's just something me and the guys do when we're drunk, and until I watched the video again I didn't realize the nice gentleman next to me had health problems.”

But his apology was rejected by viewers of the video, with one woman saying she no longer wanted him to DJ her engagement party.

Another woman said: 'Is this something you and your friends do when you're drunk? So this isn't the first time you've bothered someone?

“Even with this 'apology' you minimize and justify your actions by rationalizing what you did.

'Literally you p***** on a man when he told you he has prostate cancer. It would still be a disgusting event if he didn't have cancer.

“Just because you've done it before and your friends are doing it doesn't make it right.”

Another said: 'If this is the norm for him, as he says about him and the boys, then he and his little friends should have stopped drinking a long time ago.

Another added: 'That poor man complaining about his illness and he likes to make fun of him.'

He was due to perform at the Stamps nightclub in Llanelli on Boxing Day night, but the venue said it canceled his booking as soon as it heard about the video.

Responding to a punter on Facebook, Stamps said: “He (Brookfield) is not our DJ. He was booked as part of a five-DJ set for a one-off event and we subsequently canceled him because of the video.”
