Susanna Reid reveals hospital dash after drinking eight coffees a day to cope with 3.45am GMB starts saw her have ‘a bit of a scare’

Susanna Reid has revealed she had a 'bit of a health scare' earlier this year and had to go to hospital.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 53, was admitted after losing her voice and shocking doctors when she revealed her caffeine consumption.

Susanna admitted she drank as many as eight cups of coffee a day to cope with the early 3.45am Good Morning Britain start.

'Losing my voice earlier this year was a bit of a shock. Everyone gets a little cranky sometimes, but I couldn't get any sound out of my vocal chords and that's never happened before,” she said in the February issue of woman&house.

'I went very quickly to a specialist, who stuck a camera down my throat, requiring a nurse to hold my hand as I found that quite intrusive.

'The specialist said I might have a virus I didn't know I had. Unless we're really sick, we'll all keep working, right?

'I'm not doing anything to boost my immunity, and I should. The doctor was quite surprised that I don't drink water anymore and that I drink quite a lot of coffee, so I tried to cut down a bit.

'One morning we discovered that I had had eight coffees. But I don't drink the whole cup, I drink a few sips.'

Susanna said she has reduced her caffeine intake by alternating drinks with ginger tea.

Elsewhere in the interview, Susanna talked about how she has gracefully embraced growing older on television, saying she feels she has become more “confident” in her 50s.

Earlier this month, the presenter left fans in shock when she revealed her age on Instagram and insisted she looked half her age.

The presenter said: 'Women, especially on television, embrace aging gracefully, which means we don't fight it. We accept it, welcome it and enjoy it.

'All the women on Good Morning Britain always look better than us. We have a brilliant styling team, but it's also a matter of attitude.

β€œIt's like no one is afraid of getting older, so you inhabit it, instead of resisting it.

'I literally have no fear of getting older.

' I love every day and now that I'm in my fifties I feel like I've built up a thick skin and at the same time am a very – hopefully – loving, sensitive person.

'People often talk about imposter syndrome, but when you're fifty you know what you're doing and that gives you more self-confidence.'
