‘Is that a shooting star?!’ Footage appears to show meteor flying through the night sky as stunned Brits from across the country share their shock

Stunned Britons have reported seeing a meteorite flying through the sky early on Saturday morning.

Images posted on social media appear to show a shooting star soaring across the night sky.

Some Britons even considered it a sign of good luck before New Year's Eve.

MailOnline journalist Tom Savage spotted the meteorite from his home in west London.

'It looked blue and green. “I thought at first it could be a New Year's fireworks, it was spectacular,” he said.

'I'm no expert, but it looked low and big. I've seen shooting stars before, but this was nothing like these stars, it was a lot closer to the ground and a lot brighter.”

Another onlooker wrote: 'While smoking a cigarette butt out my window a huge meteorite flashed past #London, am I the only one who saw it.'
