Callum Wilson has reflected on his clash with Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario earlier this month.

Tempers flared in north London after Ange Postecoglou's side secured a comfortable win over the Magpies thanks to goals from Son Heung-min, Destiny Udogie and a brace from Richarlison.

Wilson and Vicario engaged in a heated exchange during the closing stages of the match after the goalkeeper appeared to thwart the England international.

Wilson accused the Italian, who joined Spurs from Empoli this summer, of a 'lack of respect' after the match.

Speaking of the incident BBC Sounds podcast with Michail Antonio, Wilson insisted his comments came in the heat of the moment.

“Listen, let's just get it out of the way. Do you even know what it's like to be in the game, in the heat of the moment and this and that.' He said.

'Yes, then you do your job, you know what it means to make the goalkeeper stop playing quickly. So I did and he was clearly talking nonsense, just like you at the end of the game.

Obviously at 4-1 the game is over, after 90 minutes I head and he starts making faces, so I just said, “What are you doing that for? You're 4-1 up, relax.” And then he said “rah rah rah” and I said “listen, show some respect. You won the game. Chill.”

'Then he started talking nonsense and I switched gears and I was like, 'No, I don't have this'. I needed something to just change me because I was already angry and he just confused me.

Despite Wilson making no attempt to hide his feelings about the situation, his podcast co-host West Ham striker Michail Antonio couldn't help but tease him about the incident.

'I'm not gonna lie, [my] team took a hit. I have to accept that.' said Antonio.

'But at least man isn't crying in the newspapers saying, “Oh no, man is so rude, you know. He's a rude person. I can't stand it!”[laughs]'
