Jetstar flight rocked by Israel-Palestine stoush after Jewish passenger is targeted with cruel taunts

A Jewish man has endured a horrific flight after allegedly being abused by a pro-Palestinian supporter.

The shocking incident took place on a Jetstar flight flying from Melbourne to Sydney on Monday.

The Jewish man, who asked to be referred to only by his middle name Michael, claimed he was afraid of the other traveler during his trip.

He said he was on his way to the gate to board his flight when a man shouted, “Free Palestine.”

Michael was wearing a yarmulke, a traditional cap worn by Jewish men, and was with his wife when he claimed he was targeted by the stranger.

“He then shouted at us, 'Stop killing our babies,'” he said The Australian.

The man sat just four rows behind Michael and his wife as they boarded the plane.

Michael claims the man continued to make anti-Israel comments while they were on the run and forced him to do so keep looking over his shoulder.

“We were minding our business, but we were fully aware that he had our backs.”

Michael claimed he informed staff on the flight about the man's comments.

He said he had also contacted the airline directly and informed police and several Jewish groups about the incident.

The airline told Michael that his complaint would be passed on to the company's head office and said they will not tolerate harassment.

A spokesperson for Jetstar told Daily Mail Australia they are investigating the incident.

“We are investigating a complaint regarding the conduct of a passenger on a flight from Melbourne to Sydney on Monday,” he said.

'We are taking this complaint seriously and are contacting affected customers to better understand what has taken place.'

A NSW Police spokesperson told Daily Mail they are not aware of a complaint having been made about the man's alleged comments.

The incident comes as the highest Jewish body released a damning report on anti-Semitism.

The Executive Council of Australian Jewry revealed a rise in abuse following the October 7 attacks in Israel launched by the terrorist group Hamas.

The report shows that 662 anti-Semitic incidents were reported between October and November 2023, a huge increase of 738 percent on last year.

Anti-Defamation Commission chairman Dr Dvir Abramovich told Daily Mail Australia the incident on the Jetstar flight was a further example of the attacks members of Australia's Jewish community continue to face.

“This terrifying incident provides further evidence that extremists are less inhibited in expressing their savage and ugly feelings openly and publicly and that we must all redouble our efforts to eradicate this dangerous phenomenon,” Dr. Abramovich said.

“Every Jewish person has the right to feel safe and board a plane without being attacked and singled out.”

About 1,200 Israelis were killed in the October 7 attacks, but Israel has since bombarded Gaza with brutal ground and air bombardments, killing at least 20,000 Palestinians.
