Search on for mystery winner who scooped million-dollar jackpot in pre-Christmas windfall

The hunt is on for a mysterious lottery player who has won a million dollar prize just in time for Christmas.

The elusive winner bought his Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto ticket from Spar Lawnton, north of Brisbane.

The lucky player was the sole winner and claimed the $1 million first division prize in Wednesday night's drawing.

Frustratingly, the player cannot be notified by the officials as he is an unregistered player.

The shop's husband and wife owners Kashyap and Chetna Patel who sold the winning ticket had only recently taken over the shop.

'We found out early this morning. It was shocking. We only started here a month ago,” Kashyap Patel told Daily Mail Australia.

When asked if he thought he and his wife were lucky because the winning ticket was sold in his store, he was convinced he knew where the luck came from.

“My wife is lucky because she's the one who was in the store all day and she's the one who sold the ticket.”

He said their store has no lucky charms or displays.

“We don't need lucky charms because the store has us,” he joked.

Mr Patel said they have put up posters to celebrate the victory but is surprised no one has claimed them yet.

“It will be a wonderful moment when the mysterious ticket holder checks his ticket and finds out he won $1 million just before Christmas.”

As of 2016, there is still $18 million in unclaimed prize money across 20 tickets

Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said she couldn't wait to speak to the Moreton Bay region's latest Division One winner.

“It is highly likely that the Division 1 winner is unaware that they have become millionaires in last night's and Wednesday's Gold Lotto draw,” she said.

'We urge anyone who purchased a Gold Lotto entry at Spar Lawnton for Monday and Wednesday to check their tickets as soon as possible.

“Imagine if Monday and Wednesday's golden Lotto ticket in your back pocket, in your purse or under a magnet on your refrigerator was worth $1 million!”

Wednesday night's win comes days after players were urged by The Lott to check their old tickets.

As of 2016, there is still $18 million in unclaimed prize money spread across 20 tickets.

However, there are just days left to claim the oldest Division 1 win of $1.3 million via a ticket purchased in Lutwyche in Queensland on December 31, 2016.
