Ladysmith crash: Three children were left orphaned after their parents were killed when their car hit a tree
Three children have been orphaned just days before Christmas after their parents tragically died in a car crash in regional NSW.
John Stanton, 40, and Trish O'Brien, 38, were on their way home from work when they came across a tree on Keajura Road, in Ladysmith, near Wagga Wagga, just after midday on Saturday.
The pair died on the spot. They are survived by their three children Teya, 17, Jack, 14, and Caleb, nine, who are now cared for by relatives.
Mr Stanton and Mrs O'Brien were both farmers from Forest Hill, and the father also volunteered for the local rural fire brigade.

A family friend, Mel Cummins, has one GoFundMe to help support the children.
The fundraiser has now raised more than $26,000.
“John and Trish were always together, partners in crime we might say,” she said.
“They were a big part of the community and were involved in many local fundraisers and were part of the RFS community for many years.”
The parents had been busy with the harvest season and had not yet been able to pick up Christmas presents for their children.
The money raised goes towards giving the children a Christmas and supporting them in their grieving.
“Both sides of the family are just trying to process the situation, what's happening and where we go from here,” Ms Cummins said. Seven news.

Tributes have been paid to the loving parents and a fundraising campaign has been set up to support their children
“We're very community-minded. John was a very big part of the RFS at Ladysmith, with Trish being his backbone and supporting him.”
Tributes flowed for the parents.
“She (Mrs. O'Brien) was a beautiful person inside and out. Thanks for the nice memories. You always helped people in need. We miss you,” said one.
“My heart is filled with sadness and grief knowing the children have lost a wonderful mother and a devoted father,” said another.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
