Sales of luxury watches are on the rise as women buy expensive timepieces… as gifts for themselves

Women are refusing to risk being disappointed by their partners this Christmas and are buying expensive watches as gifts for themselves.

British jeweler Beaverbrooks said sales of luxury women's watches are up 11 percent this year, largely thanks to women in high-flying jobs pampering themselves.

Timepieces with colored dials are proving popular, such as the £6,200 Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades and the £3,650 Breitling Navitimer 32 watch, modeled by Charlize Theron.

“There is a desire to own nice things – if you work hard you want to treat yourself,” says Anna Blackburn, director of Beaverbrooks.

Watchmaker Audemars Piguet said it expects the percentage of women who buy a watch for themselves rather than receiving it as a gift to rise to 30 percent in 2025 and 40 percent in 2030, from 23 percent in 2022 and 16 percent in 2021.
