Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons will miss at least two more weeks as he tries to overcome a nerve problem in his lower back.

ā€œBen Simmons has shown consistent strength improvement in the affected area over the past two weeks and has continued to expand individual field work,ā€ the Nets announced. “His status will be updated again in about two weeks.”

The team also added that Simmons is still only doing individual court work.

Simmons has been out since suffering the injury in early November and played six games before suffering the injury.

He has missed 20 games so far this year after his last two seasons were cut short due to back problems. He is expected to miss at least nine more games over the two weeks until he is re-evaluated.

Before suffering his latest injury, Simmons was averaging 6.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists while shooting 52.8 percent from the field.

Simmons also dealt with injury issues during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers, missing his entire 2016ā€“17 season with a foot injury after being drafted No. 1 overall that same year.

He also missed the entire 2021-2022 season due to an issue during a contract dispute with the 76ers.

Lonnie Walker IV

Despite missing Simmons, the Nets will soon have Smith Jr and Walker IV back from injuries

Simmons hasn't played more than 58 games since the 2018-19 season, when he played in 79 games for the 76ers.

Last season with the Nets, he only took the field 42 times before ultimately being sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Despite the extended amount of time that Simmons will be out of action, there is still good news for the Nets when it comes to injured players.

Point Guard Dennis Smith Jr. was upgraded to questionable for Friday's game against the Denver Nuggets after missing the last six games due to an upper back strain, while Lonnie Walker IV is aiming for a return to action next week after missing the last eight games due to an hamstring strain. .
