Bethesda shares plans for Starfield's first expansion, mod support
Bethesda's spacefaring role-playing game, Starfield many more updates to come, according to a new blog post from the developer. The blog post shares that Starfield has enjoyed the biggest launch in Bethesda history, with 13 million players as of September. Future updates will arrive approximately every six weeks and will include “everything from quality of life improvements to content and feature updates.”
Some of the new features on the way include new ways to travel and city maps that allow players to jump through large locations like New Atlantis or Akila City. We can also expect more ship customization options, new difficulty levels, the ability to add survival mechanics to the game, as well as sliders that affect carrying capacity, vendor credits, and more.
There will also be official mod support. In early 2024, Bethesda will release Creations, including a Creation Kit and exporter. Mods have traditionally been a huge draw for Bethesda games, and include both huge, game-changing additions or improvements as well as plenty of crazy draws, like cool new hairstyles or the ability to summon an attack of thousands of cabbages.
The blog post also shares that the first major expansion, titled Shattered Space, is in development and will release sometime next year. It includes new story content, locations and equipment. We don't know much about Shattered Space, or whether it will contain any new revelations about the Starborn, but we'll have to wait and see how it comes together.
Players can join the Steam Beta branch to test patches before they go live. It will be interesting to see how Starfield comes to life with player mods; they are some of the most transformative and interesting parts of Bethesda fandom. In the meantime, we'll have to wait and see how Bethesda's quality of life solutions improve the quality of life Starfield experience.
