BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards viewers are left FUMING as they spot HUGE change to annual ceremony: ‘Might as well bin it off!’

Fans were in an uproar on Tuesday night after the Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

British sport's prestigious night returned for 2023 as Mary Earps won the public vote after her performance as England goalkeeper at this summer's World Cup.

But before the winner was announced, fans were unimpressed by a huge change regarding the show.

This year the BBC broadcast the event on Tuesday, while previously it was always broadcast on Sunday evening.

Viewers took to social media to express their anger as they suggested the show was losing its popularity.

While 30-year-old Mary scooped the prize, cricketer Stuart Broad finished in second place, while athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson came third.

One wrote: '#SPOTY was tonight?!?? WTF It's Tuesday ffs! Might as well throw it away if you can't really be bothered to get it right @BBCSPOTY'.

A second commented: 'So #SPOTY has been relegated to a Tuesday night viewing. How about @BBCSport, try bringing back the Grandstand so people can watch all the different sports.

'Then they will be more interested and it can be put back in the right place on Sunday evening.'

Another added: '#SPOTY I used to watch it every year but now on Tuesday nights for the new Woke brigade. Don't bother anymore and it's pretty clear who would be the winner. Well done S. Broad for a great career at the top level. Well done Frankie ditto'.

Another wrote: 'Poor choice of nominees, sent to a small studio on a Tuesday night and yet the public thinks it's a good idea to vote for a loser rather than someone with actual success in British sport. Leon Edwards and Josh Kerr both deserve more than this piece of failure. #SPOTY'.

While Mary scooped the prize, cricketer Stuart Broad finished in second place, while athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson came third.

The Lioness was on a six-person shortlist for the top prize alongside Broad, Johnson-Thompson, wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett, jockey Frankie Dettori and golfer Rory McIlroy.

She was the favorite to win the award after starring at the World Cup for the Lionesses, conceding just four goals in the final and winning the Golden Glove trophy.

Mary is the second Lioness in a row to win Sports Personality of the Year, after teammate Beth Mead earned the award last year, and the third woman in a row to come out on top, with Emma Raducanu winning the award in 2021 thanks to her unexpected US Open victory.
