This year I'm cooking my family's entire three-course Christmas dinner in an air fryer – and it's making the 'tastiest baked potatoes'

A great-grandmother has revealed how she will cook her entire Christmas dinner in an air fryer this year because it is 'cheaper, easier – and makes the best roast potatoes ever'.

Beverley Jarvis, 74, from Ashford, Kent, cooks a festive three-course meal for eight people using her Instant Vortex Plus machine.

The air fryer expert is hoping to convert the nation – and has apparently already had the support of British Bake Off star Prue Leith.

Beverley first started using the kitchen gadget in May 2022 after her son bought one – and quickly fell in love.

She's now the author of the Everyday Air Fryer Cookbook — and puts her skills to the test on Christmas Day.

Beverley, a great-grandmother of two, said: 'I make pigs in blankets, two roast turkey breasts wrapped in bacon, I cook basmati rice in the air fryer for a Christmas salad.

'Honestly the roast potatoes I made were the crispiest potatoes ever and I just used a tablespoon of oil and two teaspoons of goose or duck fat and they were delicious.

'I also make a vegetable mix with Brussels sprouts, a side of salmon with sliced ​​clementines, parmesan chips for drinks and carrot and cranberry muffins.

'What I also do is put a whole camembert with a little bit of rosemary and garlic in the deep fryer and a few minutes later you have a delicious dip.

'Prue Leith said: “I never thought I'd be a fan of an air fryer, but Beverley Jarvis has me hooked” – the benefits are amazing to be honest. And it's three and a half times cheaper to run than an oven.'

Beverley first started cooking with an air fryer in May 2022 after her son bought one and the pair tried cooking frozen sausages and fries in the gadget.

Impressed with how they came out, she went home and immediately bought one of her own.

She started experimenting more and quickly realized how versatile the kit was – and as she developed more recipes, she decided to put together a cookbook.

She even held a charity demonstration on air fryer use at the local town hall.

She says people were so keen to see her festive snack that the demo sold out – and now she's encouraging friends and family to take the plunge and invest in the gadget.

'One thing that's great at Christmas is dried clementine slices; it takes about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes,” said Beverley, who is also a grandmother of 19 and a mother of seven.

She continued, “I'll just cook them at 82 degrees, and they'll be on display. For Christmas dinner I cooked a boneless turkey rolled with bacon around it and pre-cooked potatoes in a little oil and goose or duck fat, they only need a little bit.

'I'll put the potatoes around the turkey and you'll find it's done in 55 minutes, instead of an hour and 40 minutes in the oven.

'I also make an alternative Christmas cake: I have a delicious recipe for a yoghurt-oil cake with cranberries and chocolate pieces. It goes so quickly in the air fryer.

“What I say to people is, if you're wondering whether you should take the plunge, don't hesitate; you will really benefit from having one in your kitchen.

'I use it every day for almost everything and am now working on my second air fryer cookbook.

'I'm so impressed with its efficiency. They can prepare frozen food, reheat food, fish, meat, vegetables and poultry – the scope is incredible.”
