Cel Spellman sports a bruised and bloodied black eye as he attends the opening night of West End play The Motive & The Cue

Cel Spellman suffered a nasty black eye on Monday while attending the opening night of The Motive and the Cue at the Noel Coward Theatre.

The actor's eye looked bruised and bloody as he posed for photos before watching Jack Thorne's play.

It is not clear how Cell suffered the injury and he has not kept his fans updated on his social media.

MailOnline has contacted Cell's representatives for comment.

Despite his setback, Cell, who is best known for his role as Matthew Williams in the revival of ITV drama Cold Feet, cut a cool figure in a baker boy cap, white shirt and bomber jacket.

The play is directed by Sam Mendes, starring Johnny Flynn as Richard Burton, Mark Gatiss as John Gielgud and Tuppence Middleton as Elizabeth Taylor.

The synopsis reads: 'It follows a look into the politics of a rehearsal room and the relationship between art and celebrity.

'Richard Burton, newly married to Elizabeth Taylor, will play the title role in an experimental new Broadway production of Hamlet under the demanding direction of John Gielgud.

'But as rehearsals progress, two theater eras collide and the collaboration between actor and director quickly threatens to unravel.'

In addition to his role in Cold Feet, Cell also starred in the Netflix drama White Lines.

He left his Radio 1 Sunday slots in 2020 to focus on his acting and presenting, with Vick Hope replacing him as host.

Also at the screening was Laura Haddock, who donned a black leather jacket emblazoned with the words “What Would Bowie Do?” decorated across the back.

She wore a black satin floral skirt underneath and added a pop of color to the look with a pair of red pointed-toe shoes and styled her long locks in loose waves.
